As I started playing through the ending, for the first time with the EC, starting right before heading to Earth, I thought to myself, "This game is a masterpiece." The music swelling up, the visuals, the feeling, the dialogue. Bioware has put years into this game and it shows. I love this game!

As I left the FOB and headed towards the beam I couldn't help but feel pissed off. Genuinely pissed off. This game is perfect. Yet you have countless threads overflowing with hate towards Bioware. In my opinion, totally uncalled for hate.

Bioware answered the questions some wanted answered with the EC. It was insulting that they had to do so in the first place. People are still going to try and punch holes in what is now there, but Bioware was never going to appease them, they are a minority after all (despite their belief they are not).

My first taste with the changes to the ending started just before getting knocked out by the beam. Liara and EDI end up hurt and Shepard calls the Normandy down to get them. I know why that was put in there, so people can say one last goodbye in case they didn't make it. It was touching, and tear jerking saying goodbye to Liara, my love interest.

Although it isn't what I envisioned as happening, It was still a good choice.

What was fascinating to me was that everything that I have told others about what the endings mean was shown. I said that the catalyst was an AI construct setup to come up with a solution to a previous conflict. I said that by taking control of the reapers, you can help rebuild the destroyed mass relays. I said that the relays were used to send out the energy to enact the change. All of it was there, and If it helps others understand what Bioware have done with Mass Effect then it is for the best.

I am just glad that what they did with the endings did not change how I feel about the endings. It is still very moving and one of the best stories I have been able to actually experience. Planescape Torment and Longest Journey will still be at the top of my list, so it is in good company.

I realize that this post is a little passionate, but I am just angry at how Bioware has been treated these past few months. As an artist, an unnatural hate towards something you put your soul into, is something that is hard to take. I don't want to say it is out of ignorance, but it really is.

And yes, I did just swing around a flamethrower slightly.

Bioware really is a great company and I can't wait to see what they do next.

To be fair, with a Low EMS destroy ending, what everyone else was saying about the Relays being destroyed, people being stranded on Earth, the crew being seemingly dead or stranded, and galactic civilization basically being crippled, also seems to be true.
