Well, I dunno about you, but for me this whole Dark Ritual screams DLC or even DA:O 2 for me.
Morrigan has definetfiely been one of the most intriguing characters in the game, and one has to wonder what will happen with her and the baby. I do think this is too good of a story to simply leave untold. This however means that in order for it to logically occur BioWare will have to modify the story so that you did take her up on her offer. (Only other option would be to say that she somehow seduced Allistair I guess...)
Upside to that would also be that you could keep playing with your character. (One reason why I will always take her offer, I just don't want my beloved char die a pointless death. Much more fun to hunt down Morrigan after being celebrated a hero!) Seeing how BioWare will do the same for Mass Effect 2 (something that I am very much looking for) I do think there is a good chance we'll be able to kepp on playing... (Well, at least I do hope for that :)

So, what do you guys think?

I think the next Dragon Age will be at least 10-20 years after the events of the game with a brand new PC. I don't doubt Morrigan will play a role, and she may well have a child, but I imagine Bioware will leave the child's paternity up in the air. With the vast array of endings to choose from, I have a hard time imagining them forcing players to take an ending that many of them feel is not in keeping with the spirit of their character.

I hope the sequel doesn't have anything to do with these characters, but the god baby will probably be prominent in future DA titles.

I hope we keep our characters, for sure, it isn't really a good story if after the first book the main character is dead and a new one takes his/her place to deal with his actions, maybe after a few (ala Star Wars and other such things). But yeah, I want to continue my characters story.

the dragon god baby will play a key role in the whole dragon age series, that much is clear

but bioware does not need to force us to take the dark ritual, if you chose another ending in dragon age: origins, morrigan will have found another way to get her baby, like going to alistair behind the players back or something like that. it doesnt matter that much because i too beliebe the sequel will take playe at least 20 years after origins, and the player charater is long dead because of the taint, but maybe he was the dragon gods father.

but she will get her dragon god, thats for sure

Actually I disagree, and would not mind them setting it after the first MC has died, and there are plenty of good stories that do (often told in the form of a dynasty, told over a bloodline or connected somehow).  While DA could possible do one more game with the MC from the first one, I think any more than that (and they are planning a trilogy) would take it too far, as the character would be overly powerful to the point of 'Stupid Powerful', and the story going the way of most franchises that just don't know when to quit and quietly retire somewhere.

Morrigan will probably have a kid that is special regardless of if a god was involved or not...

It wouldn't surprise me if they don't directly address it , or just say its a rumor. So she could have just got knocked up later (not even through a dark ritual with the grey warden).

Actually the baby god will be born and then sent back in time upon birth, since Morrigan is too nasty to be a good mother, and the Maker doesn't approve of that.

The kid would be so small he fitted in a sandal, and the passerby dwarf that found him thought that was a fitting name thus. Just to bad the kid hit his head on the ground when he fell down from the timetravel, he'll probably will become a bit retarded....

I'm almost positive that the baby will be important to one of the sequel's storylines. Either as the PC or a major antagonist.

It will be interesting if the child keeps the memories of the Old God and can shed some light about the Dragons relation to the Blight/Darkspawn. The real story that is, not what the Chantry says.

Maybe they could have slight variations depending on whether the player did the ritual or not.

There could be an early conversation discussing the Blight in Ferelden, who slayed the Archdemon and whether they died. If they did not die, then they know the ritual was performed.

As I have said before, it would really tick me off immensely if they did. It would be lazy and bad writing IMO, and show a lack of respect for the players as well as for their own storyline. You don't retcon important choices out of existence and tell people that something they invested a lot into emotionally never happened, and never even was an option to happen -- it's just bad form.

I love the "ultimate sacrifice". How many games are there in which you actually have to sacrifice anything at all? So many are all gloom and doom and impossible odds, yet somehow the "hero(ine)" always flounces out of it all pristinely unharmed and unaffected. A proper heroic death is a welcome breath of fresh air, and it can be a fantastic climax and conclusion to a storyline. In this case I thought it fit beautifully. From the start I wanted something like that for my first/main/"canon" character (human noble warrior). I liked the idea of the Calling (and the video trailer), grim as it is. The sacrifice is even better.

If that stupid (b/w)itch Morrigan "had to have" her damn spawn, it should have been impossible to turn her down. As it stands it would be impossible to retcon it into existence without totally breaking the three sacrifice endings.

I think they'll just have a "track Morigan down" DLC where things go differently if you did/not go through with the ritual. She leaves no matter what you do so tracking her down is an option no matter what. Why would you assume you need to go through with the ritual to play such a DLC....assuming they intend to do it?

Because there is a 50/50 chance your character is dead if you don't go through the ritual.

As to the topic at hand, I would be really, really upset if they forced this ending on us for part 2.  I detest Morrigan and the dark ritual ending is repugnant to me.

Repugnant? Saving your life......yes I agree....saving YOUR life does seem rather repugnant......since you detest the greatest NPC in the game....such a waste to even offer you the option.

As I said before. The title of the game is Dragon Age:Orgins. So the question is orgin of what? My guess would be Morrigan's child. There are enough loopholes for them to get way with it. Maybe Riordan could do in a pinch anyway. Maybe they can write it so we never really have to know.

My thought is that DA2 could very well be about you playing Morrigan's child. That would work quite well I think. Morrigan is back - as your mother. Maybe you have to help her agains Flemeth (or betray her). You get an excuse for a MC with awesome powers and a past that would open for both good and evil choices. Struggle with a taint etc. All in all I think that would make an awesome story.

Some of us may have to get over a slight case of Oidiphus complex, but I can live with that.:innocent:

I want to be able to continue with my PC or at least have some part to play in the future games. What really needs to happen first is Bio Ware needs to solidify the endings to be more in line with the PC choices. Then and only then can the story move foward with the PC as i said even if the PC hands off to thier child or to some Grey Warden prodigy but yes i think that it would be important for the previous PC to have to march off to the Deep Roads as this is where all Grey Wardens end up eventually, and seeing as Bio Ware has the uncanny ability to tear jerk the player if done right this could be a powerful segment to build on.

The most obvious explanation of the title is that it refers to the various character origins available to start THIS game, which is one of its much-touted features.  It's also the first game in a potential series so yeah it could have that double meaning.

My guess would be Morrigan's child. There are enough loopholes for them to get way with it. Maybe Riordan could do in a pinch anyway. Maybe they can write it so we never really have to know.

If they really had wanted to set that up it would have been better if the first game "robbed" the Warden of a heroic death.  i.e. You tell Morrigan to take a hike.  The battle comes.  You slay the archdemon.  One of you puts a sword into it and... doesn't die.  Obviously, someone did the deed and it wasn't you.  Easy.

But they didn't.  Since it has occurred to SO many people that this god-baby is such a fantastic idea for DA2 wouldn't you think it would have occurred to those who came up with the idea in the first place?  And yet they did not set themselves up for it.

Some of us may have to get over a slight case of Oidiphus complex, but I can live with that.:innocent:

After spending so much effort on all the origins and options to start THIS game why are so many assuming Bioware would chuck everything you then did in the first game and say, "No, you see... here's what actually happened!"

On my latest playtrough i did find an actual person in Morrigan, she's not all bad. Maybe they'll do Dragon age what they are doing with Mass Effect; let you import saves from this game, so your choices will have an impact on the sequel?

I suspect that "impact" will be fairly limited in ME2. For DA2, it would be nice to have things fit with the first game but what people are talking about here is more than a passing reference to Morrigan's child but actually making it a main story plot point. Not going to happen unless they concoct some silly reason for the baby to exist even though the old god's soul was clearly annihilated with the death of a Warden in MY save.

I have no idea how they are going to handle the Morrigan issue if she reappears in the sequel. And satisfy everyone.

There would be players who were prepared to die than go through with her proposal. But Bioware raised the issue of a god child so it is hard to completely ignore it. And I think the writers enjoy writing Morrigan as a character.

My guess is the sequel will be set in Orlais a few years afterwards. Morrigan will have a young child with magic potential with her. Then they will leave it open ended whether this is the god child. Or just some kid she has abducted Flemeth style.

I wouldn't be surprised if the God-Child is a red herring.
