So synthesis leads to a perfect utopia where all life thrives in perfect cooperation. Great. Does that really sound like a good thing?  I mean, what kind of a story is that? It isn't one.

I don't want Garrus and Tali and Liara becoming gods and sitting around comtemplating poetic crap all day or whatever it is gods do. I want them to be, I dunno, having a beach party and fooling around with each other. As it was meant to be! Most of all, I want Shepard alive to frekin' join in!

I'm sorry, EDI and Joker. I'm so sorry. Screw the geth, I don't care. The quarians can hire some salarians to fiddle with their immune systems.

I still don't know how it stops sentient beings from creating future synthetics. So Catalysts worst fear still isn't stopped.

EDIT: That and having a network of inteligence? Can't wait until someone starts hacking peoples brains and causing all kinds of mischief.

People are happy because it appeals to their emotions. Every con-artist of a writer knows that you can write a crappy story and have people love it if you manage to make it tug their heartstrings. They couldn't make it better through explaination so they made it so it is emotionally appealing.

I went with it because it saved the most lives. When the star child said that it would basically unshackle the conciousness of all the previous civilizations that had been turned into Reapers, I figured going with destruction would be the worst act of genocide in the entire galaxy.

Synthesis became almost too good, really. I know that it was meant to be the "best" ending before, but now it sort of whacks you over the head with that idea. When the kid says something about not having enough time to explain, what I really heard him say is, "I don't have a real explanation aside from space magic, so stop asking."

is the words of Mordin...

"no soul, replaced by tech."

at least he didn't live to see that horrible thing come to pass to his people.

I liked it. The catalyst said it would happen eventually anyway and I guess that was good enough for me. That and giving organics improvement while giving synthetics understanding. At least it was Shepard and not a nameless future alien who initiated it. And they actually showed how it affected the universe instead of just cyber leaves and Joker with glowing green eyes. Yeah maybe EDI was getting that understanding, maybe she wasn't really. At least we get altruistic reasons for choosing it now instead of "oooo, I get it with my huge EMS".

Why are people so happy with refusal? It's a terrible ending.

I mean, it's pretty clever, but it essentially is an ending in which you've utterly failed due to stubbornness.

I don't know. It seems even more disturbing now than it did before.

Who really cares? I think the thing the EC got right, got ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, is that it gave us three(four?) endings that were all equally valid. I think synthesis and control suck, but I love the destroy (sorry blinky flashlights). Other people think destroy is genocide, but love the synthesis.  Or control.

And that was always what I thought the point of ME3's endings would be. Wildly divergent endings that gave everyone something they liked.

To get back on topic, probably cuz they're into transhumanism or whatever.

Youd reject utopia if it was offered to you?

Only thing that bothers me still about it is that one guy forces evolution upon all.

The word you're looking for OP is "dystopian"; an apparently utopian society with very dark implications.

Think Brave New World. The people of Brave New World were actually very happy. Hell, why don't we start doing that?

I think a quote from mister Jimmy Vega sums up my thoughts about Synthesis.

"It's not right. It looks pretty. Calm and peaceful...but it's just not right."

Not every choice will seem equally good to everyone. That you're rejecting one version of utopia shows the endings actually are different.

It's creepy to me because it's the eternal question of "do the ends justify the means". It asks if galactic peace and an end to the cycles is worth taking away the free will of every sentient being in the galaxy. I think it's the worst choice.
