EDIT: though just one final point here, as I sit here thinking (darn it!) about your many good points, i found a slight issue i have with one of the points that doesn't have too much to do with the debate of the day.
the Salarian counciler's safety was the mission. that was paramount. they weren't just sitting idly by as Thane fought Kai Leng, they were putting themselves between Kai Leng/any potential other assassins that very well could have been lurking cloacked in the shadows and the Salarian Counciler. from such a position, it would be inadvisable to take potshots at Kai Leng in the middle of the close-ish quarters ninja duel.

I thought about that too, do you really think it necessary that all 3 need to protect the councillor though?  Not even one could have had a go at KL?  And if you look at the screenshots, they're not even paying attention to the councillor anyway.  IF there had been other Cerberus agents lurking about then I would understand Shepard and squad not being able to help.  And I do think that there should have been something in the scene that would have distracted Shep and squad from the Thane/KL fight, that would have made more sense to me.

In that situation it would have made more sense to tell the other two squaddies to get the Councillor the hell out of there. Which also, irritatingly, would have made a tiny bit more sense of the fight a little less nonsensical too, with Shep as the only gawping bystander.

Oh and Shep is meant to be an absurdly good shot. Just ask Garrus if you don't believe me. Image IPB

haha yes :D :D even if he always saif it was just luck xD but well, i also wonder that thane never hit KL....he stood so near quite often. alright, one or two times i can understand because he felt dizzy and KL shield...but it was more and me just: o.O what happened?
i also wondered when i fight against kai leng in cronos i just though: huuuh? that was all, easy thing...and thane, the best assassin, could not handle this o.o

To be fair, you get the impression that if Thane could actually, you know, breathe, Kai Leng would be red paste on the wall.

sure, i never doubt this. i know that he's the best damn assassin. it was just kind of confusing for me that while the fight he did not showed how bad his health is. adrenlin nevertheless, he faught (well accept this faults made just that the fight looks more awesome) when he was that bad condition as he told shep before, he would not be able to fight like this. he said he wasn't able to get back on normandy, but fight this well, even if he never hit with the pistole

Support Thane Zombie Romance DLC.
I am sorry for you femsheps, you know because of Thane AND Jacob.
Also sorry there is no option to save Thane, like there is one with Miranda.
But better Thane then Kirrahe.

His death didn't bother me, I expected it the moment my femshep told him she wanted him in ME2. What bothered me was the total lack of acknowledgement of the romance in ME3. Run off to the hospital as soon as I get his note only to have to say that yes, I was there to see the VS, no option to say I am there for Thane. A quick make-out session (that seemed utterly inappropriate). Then that's it. After his death everyone is so happy to have the VS back but no one expresses their sympathy to Shepard. No one acknowledges she's just lost her love. Sure, she gets to say "That's for Thane" (or whatever the exact quote is) but that hardly makes up for all that wasn't said previously.

most of us were expecting his death and were prepared, i was too, but not how it went out, so you're totally right...
if it has been a well written, touching emotional death with more romance diversity, than the complain would not be that big...
at least, sure we want an option to save him (from being stabbed, not von keprals) and it would have been possible even now to save him from his injury, but well, as patrick admit, they just dropped the ball and forgot him as a li

That last bit that I bolded is exactly why I think wanting a Thane DLC is not at all unreasonable. :(

This is why i dislike Kai Leng. Whenever he turns up, the game switches to autodialog. And you know there is nothing you can do, though a lot you wish you could. Storywise there should be an option, where Kay Leng fights Thane long enough till he realises he can not win,

so absolutly true <_< i want to mention thane more than just once. well shep yelled once: youuuu!
but this could also stand for KL playing stupid games and getting in her way all the time.

Why change one of the best deaths in the game? Thane knew he was going to die ever since we met him in ME2. There is no reason to change that.

Well said. Thane and Mordin deaths were superb.

1. Mordin was not a LI.
2. Mordin death is optional.
3. Mordin died curing the genophage. The work of his life. Thane died saving... the salarian councilor... ¿?
4. "Thane and Mordin deaths were superb" -> This is an opinion, not a fact. I disagree.
5. No one is asking to change your games. All we want is an option. An alternate path. If you don't like it, don't use it, and you will enjoy your "best deaths".

The only good thing about the never ending repeat of baseless arguments is that we have all refuted it in this very same thread a couple of pages ago. I should start bookmarking this things

Talking about the "Heroic Deaths" on ME3. There are 3 that come to mind:
Mordrin

  • Dies saving an entire race
  • Dies redeeming himself for creating/aggravating the problem in the first place
  • Only Mordrin could do what he did, no one else could
  • It was his choice and he fully knew he would die
  • Was near death as a 40 years old Salarian
  • Leaves no one behind depending on him
  • Is not an LI
Legion
  • Dies saving an entire race, his own
  • Dies redeeming his race for having some of it's members follow Saren
  • Only Legion could do what he did, no one else could
  • It was his choice and he fully knew he would die
  • Was not near death
  • Leaves no one behind depending on him
  • Is not an LI
Thane
  • Dies saving only one person
  • Dies redeeming his past ? Wasn't Suicide Mission enough "redemption " ?
  • ANYONE could do what he did, Kirahe actually does it in some versions
  • It was NOT his choice, he didn't know everyone would be staring at Kai Lame motionless
  • Was near death
  • Leaves A SON  behind depending on him, leaves Sheppard heartbroken when she is under a big challenge
  • Is an LI

Does that put how lame Thane's mandatory death is in perspective ?

Jedi and Dawson, thanks for reading a single page of this thread!
