So joker comes down to london, picks up squad, they decide "Hey, we tried and fell down we'd best run away now" and go. That's fine, whatever. Shepard wants somebody to live, cool, they can try that. Then he gets hit, assumed dead, hackett says well **** we're screwed everybody's sad. Then a bit later, shepard gets up and gets into the citadel. Hackett notices and announces that people made it there and to try harder. Not sure if he says it's shepard at this point or not, but later on Hackett knows it's sheaprd so maybe other people already know that too.
So if you're joker, and hear that somebody gets to the citadel, probably shepard...how the hell do you think he's getting off the citadel? Do you assume that he's just going to die no matter what and so you don't need to worry about his transportation? Or do you think hey maybe my commander might need a ride off the citadel when he's done setting this crazy thing up? And if Joker does slightly care about what happens to Shepard, why wouldn't he move in and stand by for evac?
When Hackett announces that shepard made it to the citadel...why wouldn't joker move in and get ready for evac?
