Anybody read the
The First Law-trilogy by Joe Abercrombie?
Bayaz is a good example of what kind of villain/antagonist/puppetmaster I'd like. He starts out as this kind of
Gandalf-y character, though over the course of the story he is revealed to be more and more... ruthless than he first appears to be, and in the end he is probably the most despicable and narcissistic person in the entire books.
This also opens up the possibilty for either 1) different endings where we oppose him or join him, or 2) a single ending where we have to join him, but we can choose wether we do so begrudgingly or willingly, making it easier for later games since there is no need to account for widely different endings.
(Sorry 'bout the grammar etc, I'm not a native speaker + I'm really tired...)
