This. I want at least an option to be the Archeons (however you spell it) son/daughter and you attack the south to free mages and expand the Tevinter empire for your father/mother. I would love to be able to be the big bad wolf for once. (and KNOWINGLY being the conquer.)

Heck, even being able to play as a qunari and being able to invade and convert would be epic.

An Ideal antagonist is someone with more than 2 lines of back story you only hear about on one slightly altered path with absolutely no build up & who doesn't use one of the stupidest, unexplained plot devices in all of writing "evil statue made me do it!" Then give them a rival who doesn't appear out of practically no where, who doesn't have any back story at all, and isn't a homicidal hypocrite whether you side with him or not.

Loghan & Eamon worked caused you knew about them from early on, fleshed out their characters & the game focused on them while juggling the darkspawn disaster quite well. DA2 phenomenally failed on almost all of this and more with merrideth & orsino, yet nailed the Qunari disaster & made the Arishok a compelling antagonist, Act 3 was a waste of everyone's time & i still wonder why they bothered if they were going to half ass it so bad

Let's say all the war in the world (mage-templar, qunari must be pissed off, Orlais civil war, Free marches war, dragons and stuff) weaken the veil then a good villain might be trying to fix it with means that could be immoral (blood magic) and it will mean we have a complex villain and one pure evil villain (I'm thinking a demon of suffering)

Kinda like how we had Loghain and the Archdemon in DA:O.

For those who read the latest DA book, Asunder, I think that very possibly the enemy will be the mage Adrianna that is in that novel.

My ideal villain would be introduced for the final fight as they are playing an organ. Ocarina of Time did that for Ganondorf, and that was pretty much the coolest thing ever. Every villain I've seen after that has been subconsciously compared to that. "Sure this guy is evil and cool and all, but if only he was playing an organ..." ;)

ohh the option to take over the big bads world domination scheme (depending what it is ofc) could work nicely.

Big Bad should definetly not be a mage however, that idea has been done, if you want to keep things ambigous as towether mages should be enslaved or free, you can't have them constantly being villians,
