DAO ganks internet connection?

I installed DA:O on my best desktop (2 desktops and a lappy in our local network) a month or so ago and that very day discovered I had no connectivity at all. The other two computers were fine. I unchecked all 'online' options and nerfed the DAupdater without joy. I figured it was the game somehow and simply used another computer when I needed to go online. Uninstalled the game today and voila regained full connectivity.
So, I can't grab any DLC since the game on my computer pretty much immediately takes out my connectivity. I can't get online at all if I have the game installed.
It's not a very good situation....
I've read some of this thread (before it was derailed) and there doesn't seem to be anything suggested that I haven't already tried. I'm running McAfee AV, and that wasn't an issue. No firewall problems.
So, wth is with this scenario? My choice is play the game OR have internet connectivity.
EDIT: running XP Pro with SP3.

If you say, you can't get online at all with the game installed - and CAN do so without, than I would suggest, that you have some software problems, caused by DAO installation... Turn off Firewall, turn off Mcafee, check if you have a connection to router while running a game.
When not run, DAO CAN'T cause such problems, so let's try to find out what else can cause them...

I didn't get it - did you try to switch off DAUpdater service?
I did try that, as I said. Made no difference.
Turn off Firewall, turn off Mcafee
Windows firewall is off and there is a DA exception in McAfee's. Can't see how there could be any firewall issues.
, check if you have a connection to router while running a game.
I originally had to get back to desktop for some reason on day one of installation, which is when I noticed there was no internet icon in my toolbar. Checking internet options in contol panel also showed no icon ie no connectivity at all. I shut down all computers in the network and rebooted the modem/router but it made no difference. Common sense say you're probably right when you say that simply having the game installed would not cause this problem - see below, however - but running the game does, or might.
The day after this occurred initially I took the effected PC tower to a friend's house and plugged it into his network. Connectivity was returned. I brought it back home and that was when I turned off all online options and nerfed the updater. Running the game however again took out connectivity. So it's a real mystery... It seems that maybe it had messed with the network somehow.

I concede that common sense says this should be the case, but how do you explain that I regained connectivity again immediately after uninstalling the game and rebooting the computer?? At no stage during the past month has starting the computer with the game installed given me connectivity....
Anyway, this is what I've done: I disabled connectivity and reinstalled the game.. Without running it I nerfed all online options and the DAupdater. Guess I can repatch manually. Ran the game and after finishing a play session I could then re-enable the connectivity. Bit of a pita but it works. I'll just have to remember to do it whenever I play.

And why haven't any Bioware people commented on this issue?
Maybe they are all on xmas vacation?
Please!
Include a fix to this into next patch.
So we all can enjoy the game with DLC goodies.
Since the connection is dropped, my profile doesn't update either.
Explanation for the use of SSL3 would also be most welcome.
Do something.

Thus no DLC and no toolset (one of the primary reasons I purchased the game) to mess with...
So, game and toolset are both uninstalled. Bargain on ebay, anyone?

OK I may have stopped the game from killing my internet by doing one or both of the following:
1. Under folder Dragon Age/bin_ship I set the file daupdater.exe to be run as administrator.
2. Under services (start:run services.msc) I double clicked the Dragon Age Origins entry and switched start up type from manual to automatic.
So far I have run the game a few times and normally it would have forced me to reset my network connection but it didn't /knocksonwood
Will report back to confirm or deny in a day or so.
UPDATE: Seems to be working-- kind of ridiculous that I have to allow that daupdater to run everytime I turn on my computer though.

Even though I have all the update options unchecked the game is still trying to update. It was really a problem when doing the Morrigan dry hump scene (all your underclothes are on so don't know how much that fun that could be). The game gives me the "failed to update profile" mssg which locks the game then procedes immediately to trying to load the next scene. The end result is that the game ends up on locked hard and i have to restart.
I was able to complete the scene by logging out of the dragon age servers. After logging back into the servers I reloaded that same save game. Now no lock up issues after the dry hump scene. When i check my online profile I see that achievements are still being uploaded even telling the game to not upload any updates.
Hopefully this will be fixed before Mass Effect 2 comes out since I except for it to use the same type of updating system.

Tried a similar tactic. I switched DAUpdater to Automatic and so far no problems. (Fingers crossed.)

This is scarry and odd. I'll tell my roommate about this and see if it helps him figure things out better.

@Jayce: Tried that, but the Updater blurps something about random missing files, sometimes daorigins.exe, sometime some xml file. I think my game is f****d.
Carrion, sorry, no idea.

Why the hell does it render our internet so hopelessly useless? I can't even stay connected for over a couple mins, even though my game is not even running. I've turned off all of the in-game online options. I've tried switching the Dragon Age Content Updated(in serves.msc) to automatic.. and even tried turning it off and nothing has fixed this problem for me.
Has Bioware given us any official news or a fix? I don't care if my game connects to update my game progress. But I'd like to be able to toggle the updater so that if/when I do ever need to update the game, I'll be able to... And right now, even having ALL net connections to the game turned off... I still cannot stay connected to the net for over 2 mins.
Ah, one more thing. I'm so happy to see that they are so quick to rush off and expand and create new content for people to BUY.. but they have yet to fix the game that they released... the one we already PAYED for and can't enjoy. I can enjoy the game, but then I lose my internet.

The DAY I installed the game, I started getting internet drops. It is the game. You don't see the content updater under services.msc? It's there, even though I uninstalled the game.

I guess EA/bioware has their head too far up their DLC to care about this.
