I was actually thinking about what if another galaxy is (also?) ruled by a super AI and detects the detonation of the catalyst. This makes it view Shep the machine god as a threat and invades. Cue extra-galactic war.

I quite like the idea of there actually being a benovlent super AI for a change. I mean we never got to dictate things like commanding fleet battles in the trilogy so as a background thing it could work. Reapers helping organic n synthetic fleets.
