If this topic has come up a million times I apologize.
I was wondering what people think about the idea, I'm not saying MMO mind you...this would be more like Call of Duty/Halo style multiplayer. That's what I'm thinking anyhow...maybe it'd more Diablo style, hmm. Anyway the idea would be tactical-style PvP against another team, free for all, last one standing, etc.
I think there's enough tactical elements that it'd feel sort of like midieval special ops, there's a lot of things I don't use in single player that I maybe would HAVE to use so that my team had a better chance to win. Poisons, salves, traps and bombs never get used in my inventory but if you were going up against another player you'd want some of these things in your inventory for sure.
Sort of like shooters though, you'd be set up with equipment appropriate for your class that maybe upgrades with higher level or rank. Maybe you'd also get some potions/other stuff at the start but be able to pick up poisons, traps, bombs and the like all over the place to make it interesting. I suppose it could follow armor/weapon tiers for brackets so you don't end up fighting the guy who: played all day and night when the game came out and is now halfway to level 25.
That includes mages since they have a staff and only so many spells they can get. Some would argue CoC/Forcefield and other "over-powered" spells would need to be toned down and I would probably agree, Sleep spell comes to mind specifically.
In conclusion I would vote yes for: Tactical style multiplayer mode for DA:O. Though it might be a bit too wishful, that would be awesome if it could be implemented.

Well, the end-game poison are amazing so you missed out on those, but regarding multiplayer, the big hole with it would be the pauses in battle that this game is designed to induce. It forces you to have some sort of tactic that needs to be planned, I don't see a way how it could work while maintaining the combat style this game has. The single-player of this game is an Epic though, so it isn't like we are missing anything by not having a multipalyer.

i would love to see a Co-op for this, but you would still have the equipment and build you got in single player, instead of a party you have your friends, now.. of course it would be impossible to keep the style of the game and still be able to do multiplayer...so that is just a thing of dreams...

PvP, no. Co-op, absolutely. I'm no carebear, far from it - but the balance between classes is absolutely no good for competitive play.

I would love to see multiplayer co-op. I don't think the system is really balanced enough to support PvP, though.

Are they even really making updates for this game?

With someone absolutely, against someone NO.
There are enough MMOs out there full of e-peen hurt over PvP.

co-op might be fun but absolutely no to pvp, the combat system is nowhere near balanced enough to be suitable in the slightest for competitive play.
seriously could you imagine what that would be like? no one would use anything other than mages and arcane warrior mages would be the most common as well and every match would be decided by who casted the AoE stun first.

Lol yeah i agree with Cybercat. I had my fill of "my epics are better then yours and you suck because you canb't waste every waking moment on this MMO!" Co-op could be cool, Diablo style!

This game is so not set up for PvP, master stealth rogues lay traps every where without breaking stealth and you hopelessly dropping AoE's to *maybe* hit them, nah, no thanks, co op would be ok though. Now if they released a tool set and allowed for NWN style Persistant worlds well... I don't think I'd ever leave the house.

DA really would've needed multiplayer option like NWN. I am in middle of storyline and I just can't help to think about the fun I had playing with my friends some NWN campaigns. Also DA wins NWN2 in about every way I can imagine except it's not based on D&D so it would've been perfect substitute for original NWN which is technically bit old. (GFX, programming related limitations etc.)
But I am guessing DA probably has same kind of problems related to multiplayer than NWN2 has, walkmeshes etc. etc. or something like that. Too bad because seeing DA interface I suspect DA would'be been fun playing online even if multiplayer options would've been more limited than NWN2.

multiplayer/co-op yes. PvP... too much whining, so no.

I agree with the majority. Co-op would be great, though probably very hard to make without changing the entire game, PvP would suck. Well, PvP sucks mostly; I´m not a friend of COD multiplayer or other shooters.

I'd like Co-Op, either online or just on the same console. That'd be awesome. No PvP please.

Wouldn't mind co-op at all, but it would get rather boring for the co-opper. Still, I didn't mind waaay back when with Baldur's Gate.

Co op would be acceptable, no pvp and no mmo, nwn style require dm to be fun and that's alot of work that they can spend elsewhere. so remain single player but allow co-op if it's not to much trouble just like BG. no need for balance between race/classes.
