I am trying to do the 'Broken Circle' quest but the door is locked and will not unlock no matter what. I have tried everything I can think of including using different party members and doing ALL other quests prior. This is my third play thru and this did not happen the first two times. Please help.

First of all, what door do you mean exactly? The magicial barrier that Wynne has or something else? Be more specific.

The door that has to open before I can even get to Wynne. The first door you encounter on the right.

You mean when the templar opens the door so you can wade into the tower? That's odd, I never encountered such problem before, but either way, you are the first to report this. Did the Templar specifically told you that you could enter the Tower?

Yes, that is the door. I have talked to the Templars and Greagoir repeatedly but the freaking door just taunts me. Any suggestions?

You need to talk to Knight-Commander Greagoir and through dialogue convince him that you'll take care of the problem in the mage tower. Only then will the door unlock.

My dialogue with Greagoir goes as follows:
Greagoir: Yes, was there something else you wanted?
ME: 1. How did this trouble start again? Greagoir: As I said, I do not know. Perhaps you will find answers in the tower.
ME 2.I had a few other questions. 1.) The templar at the docks seems a little odd. 2.) How did you become a templar? 3.) Dont you feel guilty about wanting to slaughter everything?
ME 3. No. Please excuse me.

I just reverted back to a previous save to test it out, and Greagoir presented those dialogue options to me because the door was already open. When you hover over the door, it should present an open-door cursor.
Worst case scenario, just revert back to a previous save (such as an auto-save) and just redo going into the mage tower.

Ive already done enough since then that my auto save is past the conversation. It has a locked lock and says metal door hovering over the door. I guess Im S.O.L. and have just wasted 26 hours of my life that I will never get back. If you have any ideas PLEASE let me know....

Have you tried all possible conversation trees? Greagoir has to open the door for you when you tell him you will investigate the tower. I don't recall the exact sequence I used but I never saw the choice "I'll investigate the tower" (or whatever it is) fail to appear.

Happaned to me about two weeks ago which is why I stopped playing the game. This had the potential to be a really great game but it is a dissapointment to me. There was talks of how people compared this to Fallout 3 as the 'Sword and Shield' version. I really couldnt decide which was best at first but now its far too clear Fallout 3 is far superior.
My only advice is start the game all over again and yes you have just wasted another 26 hours of your life. Glitches like this really put me off games.
Also... how on earth do people play 100s of hours gameplay? I can do 50 hours if I really tried my best but by then ive completly done everything how does everyone find it such a big game? I feel like im missing something =S

1st playthrough was ~84 hours, second was ~73. I like to scour every corner, plus I read most of the codex entries.
But yeah, this is why I use all 31 save slots, and re-save new saves over the oldest of the 31 saves, so I always have 30 places I can revert to (plus the auto-save) if something screws up - and I have seen my fair share of doors that won't unlock and other screw ups in thsi game (though I still love it to pieces).
I try to save at least once every 5-10 minutes,. so when (not if) the game wiggs out, I don't lose a lot of time, no more than 20-30 minutes or so. It's a good habit to get into, for any game, really.

Thanks for the suggestions, looks like I'll be playing Assassins Creed 2 until Feb 1st. I will say that Dragon Age was top 3 favorite games Ive played, its a shame it had to end on a sour note.

Try using the d-pad to cycle through the selectable items. The door should highlight.
Failing that, move your party away and hold position while trying the d-pad trick. If that doesn't work try popping out of the tower and head back into it and try the sequence again.

One question guys, if I may : Circle of mages was the next step after Lothering or have you completed the quests in Redcliffe village before?

It sounded as if you couldn't get into the tower. Now you are saying you did go through the tower and defeated the big bad blood mage...
After ulrich did you speak to the first enchanter and head downstairs via the cut-scene? Did you choose to eliminate the whole lot?
If you can break down the steps you went through we may be able to help you with this "bug."

I still don't understand why you don't have a previous save?
When people slam the game, the developers and whatnot, because they didn't save strategically to bail themselves out of a situation...why is that Bioware's problem? Why is that not just user problems? Don't blame the game. You're the one who didn't save. Why blame others for your lack of foresight?

Yes we went Down via the cut scene..and everything was perfect and since i couldnt do anything more there i thougt its done.. didnt bother saving there coz i always use autosave.. I tell You i was playing the game normaly.. went to compleate everything at orzamar.. finally got the dwarfs as allies.. went to redclif to speak with Arl, and he told me i need more treadies before he can call the landsmeet.. so i checked the jurnal, and saw the cicle of magi still hangin' in the uncompleated quest... so i went there, but i cant do anything..
My brother passed the game 3 times.. he checked it.. theres no way of doing anything.. so im just stuck.. :/
PaTT2 im not bleaming anyone for this, and im not hitting the developers eather.. im just sad that this ended in a sorrow note.. The game is fantastic, but i always use the autosave, and didnt noticed the bug till i played 10 hours more.. :/ its a tough situation.. i would love to see hhow would you react if this happened to You..

heres how it went.. i went inside the tower, went trough fade, completed it, got to the top floor defeted uldrich and spoke with the first enchanter (the only way of templars leting us out was getting the first enchanter there, so we went down via cut scene.. and then i found my self in the first room with knight commander Gregorior..only thing that could be done was the up mentioned conversation with him.. so i thought,ok its done.. continued playing the game norrmaly.. theres no solution to this sadly.. my brother tried everything..

I;ve found there to be so many glitches in the Fade. I defeated two of the guarding demons, only to have the game not record, them, so I had to travel all the way back and defeat them again. Very glitchy game. The Circle is the WORST part of the game for me. If you ever do pick up the game, have several save files, just in case, I guess. Sorry, that sucks so much!!

Weird. I can suggest turning the game off and turning it back on and seeing if it doesn't clear something, a stuck flag or ? Maybe (I don't know what platform you're on)...your machine has overheated or ? The 360 has a known memory leak with the game and when you play for a long time things start to go weird on you. That's about all I can figure?
Okay, nevermind, you're on the 360 (I came back via a link so I wasn't sure where I was on the forum). It's probably the memory leak thing. I would suggest turning off your console and re-starting after about 4 hours of play. Also, I would learn to not trust solely auto-saves, for your own peace of mind. By the end of the game, I've used all 30 slots.
