I'm hoping for Cassandra Pentaghast myself if you side with the Chantry.

I want new companions. Companions we have not seen before would be very nice.

A Fex would be nice, halla of course, someone from Tevinter, a Qunari female, an Orlesian or a Gray Warden woman from headquarters.

If we have to see someone again, how about Ariane?

I'd like a tranquil mage companion, one that had been forced to become tranquil. He/she would have to be a rogue or a warrior obviously. I also think it would be interesting if another companion was the tranquil mages friend, someone who feels obligated to look after their friend even though he/she isn't the same any more.

I would love to see someone older in Dragon Age III. All those characters are so young and sexy looking and whatnot. There is a need ad least for a one character that is older, wiser. Becouse of the age, he or she could be a mage and stay behind, working as a powerfull backup, but not like this boring lady mage in Origins, that was a healer. Someone with actuall good knowledge of battle magic. And for Maker's sake - make some VALUABLE clothes for mages this time, looking for good robe for mage is like swimming in a haystak.

Also, I would like to see someone not so obvious. Dwarf, human, elf, qunari... Maybe BioWare can make someone REALLY new?

Carver/Bethany would make a great companion, considering the different possibilities.

Unfortunately, one of those possibilities is that he/she is dead.  Of course, that was a possibility with Garrus & Tali after the suicide mission (and lots of NPCs in ME3), so that doesn't mean it's out.  I like this idea.

Yeah, Cullen was great. And honestly, i like Merill a lot, so cute and naive. But a real Templar and a Mage (not as hardcore as Anders, but someone who thinks that Mages should live free of the chantry)
IF a female dwarf, then more a "motherly" figure, but for me, dwarfs are still those with long beards and a big axe in both hands (or one)
I loved Leliana, oghren was ok, but i didnt take him with me often..

Its been said the next game would feature returning favorites as well as new ones.

I suspect we will see somebody we least expect from DA2 return as a companion in DA:3

I think we're probably see Varric and its possible we could see the Hawke Siblings

For a returning companion, I'd love Varric as a LI, maybe get the backstory on Bianca. For new companions, I would love a Kossith female and a magister, maybe have a Isabella/Fenris implied relationship if neither is the chosen LI.

I would certainly love another character who fills the role of 'BFF' or 'BRO' like Alistair or Varric. I'd also like to see like a darker character like Fenris, who instead of searching for their past, kills people in pursuit of some sort of mission like 'bad guys need to die' or 'I hate slavers' or 'Freedom is the right of all sapient species, let's stop the qunari from infringing on everyone else's'. For that matter, I would just like to see more of the qunari.... and argue with them like in DA2 telling them how abhorrent I find their whole mindless borg setup.

A Tevinter Magister would be interesting. A Kossith, perhaps another Sten, the magister could conflict with, would be nice. I'd also be interested in having a mercenary companion similar to Zaeed. He could perhaps be a companion with a neutral opinion on the conflict.

A female Tal-Vashoth companion would be pretty cool and could make for a great romance option too. A Former Circle of the Mages companion (someone who knew Anders before Justice) would also be pretty sweet and a great romance option too. Both would basically start out hating you for whatever reason and (with the proper selection of options) then come around to liking you. Having a Seeker, Anti-Mage Templar, Gun for Hire Mercenary would also be pretty sweet as well.

I just had an idea. What if you could have two different kinds of companions:

1. The regular companions from the previous games, with side quests, romance options, etc.

2. Secondary companions- mercenaries. Let`s say there are four, each with their own unique skills and class. They don`t have side quests and are not involved in the main plot. If they fall in combat, they are dead, and if you don`t keep them happy (give them enough money) they will leave, maybe even turn on you. They will have dialogue options however, and if you use them correctly they may follow you throughout the game.

would prefer the first option but it would be great if your companions could die permanently,  :
for instance 3 death/defeat in less then 2 hours get the character dead for real, that 'd bring a nice stratégie
death could also happen by making the bad decision story wise,
for my first playthrought at dao i was surprise and please to see some characters you thought would be companions just died

I'd like to see Tallis from Dragon Age: Redemption. She could be a Tal-Vashoth Rogue for you party and could actually be modeled and voiced by Felicia Day.

How the crossbow was made, certainly. But who the crossbow is named for hasn't been revealed.

The only one I really want is Bethany/Carver, and I want them to be LI's,

I personally think they're the only companions in DA2 where their story felt completey unfinished. I would love it if they gave them some closure with their story.

Of course, one problem is that there are so many variables for them.. Dead/Templar/Grey Warden or Dead/Mage/Grey Warden. One way to fix this is have both Templar Carver and Mage Bethany eventually join the Grey Wardens anyway, say they were conscripted into the order. That ties up 2/3 for both of them. Of course.. dead is tricky, but as someone already mentioned, Tali/Garrus can die in Mass Effect but still appear as companions in Mass Effect 3.

It would also tie the next protagonist to Hawke in some way. I'm a big fan for having ties to prior protagonists; Hawke was tied to the Warden either by family, Isabela or Anders and I did enjoy that aspect alot.

Definitely Cullen; he seemed to be torn between the chantry and his own beliefs (which would make for a very interesting companion quest). Loved it in Dragon Age: Awakening when you caught up with Oghren! (Maybe he can "pop" up again LOL! Total awesomeness!) I REALLY REALLY want to see Alistair's baby! Morrigan can suck it! :P And lastly, at least your grey warden or Hawke! Come on Bioware! Let me know I made a difference and see my character kick butt again! XD

I believe its been said by one of the powers that be that we will never find that out.  They said we got Bianca's origins in Legacy and thats the extent of it.

These are examples of companions I don't want in DA3:
Cullen
Flemeth
Any Origins companion
Morrigan as a permanent companion
Any Leliana's Song companion
Any Golems of Amgarrak companion
Any Awakening companion (excluding Velanna and Sigrun)
Any DA2 companions (excluding Tallis, unless they don't try to make her more appealing)
A Templar of any kind (it would stifle the uniqueness of Alistair's companion role, in Origins)
More than 1 Seeker
Another Mabari companion
Hawke, The Warden, or the Warden-Commander

These are examples of companions I do want in DA3:

Nevin (the dwarf that offers a drink to the Warden in Tapster's Tavern, in Orzammar)*
Cassandra*
Velanna*
Sigrun
Arianne
Finn (Florian Phineas Horatio Aldebrant Esquire)
Mhairi's Ghost (or something to that effect)
Tallis (with a more appealing face; no offence to Felicia Day, but the skin, the nose and the chin look ugly)*
A female Qunari. Kossith, not any other race*
Morrigan as a temporary companion
Sten as a temporary companion
A surface dwarf
A Grey Warden companion*

I also want this (snipped) quote:*

LolaLei wrote...
But aside from that I'd really like a companion who turns out to be one
of the main antagonists. For example, you pick them up along the way and
they seem really nice, but regardless of if you're nice or nasty to
them they'll screw you over and put you and the rest of your companions
at risk, perhaps even going as far as seriously injuring your love
interest who could actually die if you didn't do certain things
throughout the game.

* = I really, really want as a companion

Edit: Another terrible forumite idea that I don't want: the Tame Ghast Companion.
