Are you seriously saying that Mass Effect 3 is the worst game released this year? You... wow.

It's definitely been the biggest letdown so far.

For me it is Diablo 3.

Lol. Because a game is all about GOTY for the endings. Nevermind that the actual game is fun to play.

I wish people would act this angry at terrible games over to Square Enix for all the lolzy Final fantasy games that are always awful in both gameplay and story. But always seem to get their hands on awards.

Has my vote - the way it polarized the community and stirred emotions (good or bad)

Plus the combat mechanics are dynamic, fluid and really, all in all, awesome.

Game of the Year, no doubt. Seriously, these people that dissaprove of the ending and say it's no GOTY because of it are the cancer of the internet, and our society. Yeah, I just said it.

Gee, I'm so sorry that a game which has focused on a well-written story and the affect of player choice on it from the beginning but threw all of that out in the ending should be disqualified from GotY consideration for that. <_<

Mass Effect 3 deserves to be Game of the Year just as much as Tim Tebow deserves to named best QB in the NFL.

Crappier games have won GotY.

No. Definitely, not. Whatever IGN might say it was touched by GOD and granted unto all of its servants. Game Informer might just as a middle finger to anyone that doesn't like it. Nothing where people actually vote on it.  Actually, come to think of it, if people actually vote on it, it might be best and worst game of the year.

Sorry Game of the Year should absolutely not be left up to a democratic vote. Look at the stupidity of metacritic and rottentomatoes to see how freaking dumb "the masses" are. I'll trust professional objective game journalists that compare how good a game is overall to other games released within the year. There are more than one site/magazine so there ends up being a critical consensus. IGN and Game Informer are two of the more objective sources in my opinion., they're not perfect but they are important.

The Bioware Social Network will never be happy... ever... Mass Effect 3 deserves GOTY for rounding up the trilogy. What if the entire Mass Effect trilogy came out this year? Will you give it the GOTY award?

ME3 doesn't deserve GotY, unless every other game this year is not very good.  Then, it will be on the worst years in gaming history.

The game was one of the best until the last 5 minutes (well, except for the horrendous journal system). Give the game a break. It still has a big chance to win GOTY, but that is only due to very little competition this year (Diablo 3 and AC3 are the main "threats")

With the extended cut the player is given a difficult moral dilemma with FOUR different possible major endings with variations, plus at least some explanation of consequences (at least as good as the Fallout games). In addition the story is very well presented and engaging throughout the game. What's my evidence for that besides my own opinion? Very simple: The fact that there was such an outcry over the ending is evidence enough that people actually cared. If the rest of the game and story was as bad as some people make it out to be there would've been no outcry and no one would've cared. In addition the "choices don't matter" people really really bug me. Entire characters die or don't die based on your decision, entire species are wiped out or not. Those are meaningful choices.

Bioware Social Network wouldn't give a GOTY award to any game, no matter how good it is. They hate and hate and hate on the ME3 ending, but praises some awful looking fan-made ending on youtube. If you really hated ME3 that much and you've lost all hope in the franchise, why don't you leave?

Thing is... I installed Diablo 3 and it didn't start, just that black screen thing that some folks get... Tried to fix it but haven't managed yet... and I'm still more disappointed in ME 3.

And that is why it doesn't deserve GotY.

Despite the EC ME3 is nowhere near GOTY worthy for me. Then again me and gaming media never agree >.<

Guild Wars 2 will never win GotY.  Game needs to be available on consoles to win.  A game that isn't playable by the majority of video game players will not win.

Arkham City will win.

Arkham City was released in 2011.

If your game needed a free EC to keep from being unplayable to a high majority of the players - you don't deserve GOTY. In this case, yes, the end rightfully pulls is completely out of contention; and this is coming from someone who loved the series.

As for the vote going to "professional objective" voters like IGN . . . it's all quite obvious that there wouldn't be anything "objective" about the vote, and they are LESS qualified than we are to vote.

It certainly gets my vote.  I've never been so involved with a story in all my 30 years of gaming.  Having had a few days to digest the EC changes, I think the ending is satisfactory.  Every moment leading up to that was amazing.

ME3 is not that great of a game. It's got a lot of flaws, but the good parts of ME3 (Tuchanka, Rannoch) were done well enough that you could put up with the flaws just so you could finish the good stuff, but now that the ending has soured a lot of people, they can look back and say "Wow, these flaws really did hold the game back".

And I think you're missing the point of "choices don't matter". When people decry ME3 for the choices not meaning anything, they're not talking about the four choices at the end. They're talking about all the choices you made in all three games that end up meaning nothing and affecting nothing.

I mean, hell, just look at the rachni. That is what people are complaining about. No matter what you do, you're still gonna fight the rachni again in ME3, and no matter what you do, they're still going to be totally absent in the game outside of that one side quest and an email update.

ME3's not a terrible game, but it's not a great game, and it's certainly not GOTY material.
