I'd say recovery of the year. I don't think any other game has gone from that bad to acceptable the way ME3 has.
I remember playing it for first time, I ignored the internet spoilers and just dove in. It was a great experiance all the way to the end. I remember thinking this is the best game i've ever played...and then the star kid fiasco. I can imagine that if the current endings were released at launch I would be saying that it was the greatest game all the way through.
It just feels like people have lingering negative feelings on the game. Taken as is it feels like game of the year, since the deal breaker
( broken ending) was fixed.

It's way too early in the year to declare but ME3 is still in the running for me.

Yea i'd vote for it Game of the year
I enjoyed it more than skyrim and batman arkham asylum. For my year it comes down to Mass effect 3 vs Witcher 2.
....Skyrim didn't come out this year and Arkham Asylum most certainly didn't. Neither did The Witcher 2.
I consider Mass effect 3 to be in that group even though it was delayed till march.
I can't think of anything thats come out this year that can match it. Diablo 3? meh?
Diablo 3 was flawed but not an absolutely cluster f*** like this game was.
Also we're only halfway through the year. We still have Assassin's Creed 3, Black Ops 2 and Guild Wars 2. One of those will almost definitely get it.
Diablo 3 is a cluster. Always online single player, it didn't even work at launch, people who bought the game new were stuck with the trial version for 3 days, it's basically a dumbed down HD Diablo 2, and worst of all the entire game is just a vessel for the real money auction house.
Blops 2 might as well be called Call of Duty '12 since they release a new one every year and Guild Wars 2 better cure cancer with all the hype it's getting. You know another online focused PC rpg that had massive hype? SWTOR.
You know that anyone who actually bothered thinking realized that TOR wasn't revolutionary in any way? GW2 is actually a unique MMO.
So they release a new one every year. So what?
It worked at launch for me. What'd I do right? Or wrong?

ME3 is a good story whether you want to admit it or not. All unique characters. First game where people moved from one place to another to talk to. People acted differently depending on how you treated them. That cool symmetry thing they did where the first and last mission mirrored each other. Those are cool writing techniques and made for a good game. Not to mention the quick moving fast paced shooter that I don't think even COD can hold up to...I'm just saying give it some props as a great game.
Are you deluded or something?
The story is made of space magic.
Moving from places to places doesn't make something a contender for GOTY.
People acting differently? So I insulted Liara and she still loves me. Totally different /sarcasm.
And the final mission? That's like the worse part of ME3.
And better shooter than COD? Ok, I am no fan of COD but it beats ME3 in term of shooting anyday.

Yes the characters moving around the normandy really made them feel alive. The Liara romance was done so well. I don't think i've ever cared more about an in game relationship. But not just her ...all of the characters, you see them mature from Mass effect 1 to 3. Garrus becomes less renegade, Liara finds her backbone and her true calling as shadow broker, Tali emerges from under her fathers shadow as an admiral in her own right. Wrex finds the family he thought he would never get.
Its truely remarkable how organic it all felt. Heres hoping the dragon age team gets some pointers

No. If it takes a dlc to make the ending acceptable, then I would hardly call that GOTY. Give the title to a game that got that right without a DLC. Then there is the autodiologue, fetch quests, Tali face issue etc.
i accept this argument.

The ending went from horrible to barely passable. The logic and narrative is still crap. I liked the rest of the game, but no, just no way in hell.
The ending went from completely unstatisfactory to more fufilling than most endings we get in this industry. It's also more varied. We get at least 5 legit endings. Most games you are lucky to get 2.
Just what kinds of games do you play?

The fact that characters had an agenda outside of waiting to be talked to is what made it cool. They talked to each other and felt like real people. I'll give you that Liara loves you no matter what but she's one of many characters. The final mission still felt cool if you caught the way it mirrored the opening missions. Even though original ending left alot to be desired. And wrong COD in no way is a better shoooter. COD is stagnant there is no getting into cover no diving or jumping simply standing in the open and hoping you can shoot faster than the predetrimined time it takes the AI to hit you. PLus ME has awesome powers which are sweet.

Ok so... You only play single player CoD apparently?
There is diving in Black Ops and I'm not sure if they said it will be back in BO2.
No jumping? I'm sorry but have you EVER played Call of Duty?
There is getting into cover, but you have to actually get into cover instead of just hitting a button.

first off you know what I meant. There is obviously jumping and diving but if you watch them jump or dive they just look stupid. and standing behind a wall facing straight at it isn't really getting behind cover. that's not what this thread is about anyway.Sam Anders wrote...

Why are you even comparing Cod, a first person shooter with ME3 which is third person? You have to compare it with GoW3. And if you really think that ME3 plays better and smoother than GoW3 which is a competitive online shooter made from Epic Games who are only making shooter games, than I have to disagree with you.Coachdongwiffle wrote...

No it doesnt deserve Goty simply because it took 3 months to make the endings of a trilogy even bearable. And dont get me even started on ohter problem like auto-dialogue and making certain choices worthless.
