Game of the year goes to Diablo 3 or Halo 4, with Borderlands 2 as a understudy if neither of them make it. Watch.

The ending went from horrible to barely passable. The logic and narrative is still crap. I liked the rest of the game, but no, just no way in hell.

The ending went from completely unstatisfactory to more fufilling than most endings we get in this industry. It's also more varied. We get at least 5 legit endings. Most games you are lucky to get 2.

Just what kinds of games do you play?

Looks at steam account :P
Fable 3...meh ending
Skyrim...never *finished* this one
Arkham city was decent if expected
Limbo...unimpressive
Bioshock...unimpressive
Deus ex Human revolution- I wanted to see more, the talks were interesting, but as a whole the ending was less satisfying than extended cut.
Witcher 2- I'm happy with this one
Portal 2- I would like to see more than just grass in the end, but glados was wrapped up well enough
former wow player- hated cataclysm ending
Alpha protocol- actually found this game to be better than most, but the ending wasen't as impressive as extended cut
kotor 2+1= we all know about those classics
Dragon age 2- ending not as good as extended cut ( origins was better than 2)
Starcraft 2 = part 1 of a trilogy, but decent overall ( still not as good as Extended cut though)

I would say Mass effect 2 ending>Mass effect 3 endings>Mass effect 1 ending

As much how it was discussed on internet boards, memes, and etc, I mean it was one of the most talked about Games of 2012. I say it is a strong contender. It was the conslusion to a very brash and bold idea that started..when? in 2004/5 and it worked. Adam Sessler stated, this is how you end a trilogy. Time magazine referenced the Mass Effect Trilogy in an article about the Space Opera genre in relation to Promtheus.

I can't remember what else came out recently that has been on the top tens. I would state Diablo 3, but I think the internet/nerdhate is more there. i say it's a strong contender. but we'll have to wait and see.

not sure if that worked. But it's mostly or almost recied all perfect gaming scores with most game critics.

"During March 2012, Mass Effect 3 sold 1.5 million copies for consoles, with 3.5 million shipped for all platforms.[147] According to EA's Q4 results, Mass Effect 3 has grossed over $200 million.[148]"

Anybody stating that it's not a strong contender can have thier own opinon and could be correct. However, I'm sure it'll get on the list without any problem.

No mistaking it, game of the year is a bad joke. They didn't even consider witcher 2 last year.

As much as you dislike the EC ending ( I happened to enjoy them...some quirks, but it redeemed ME for me) Mass Effect 3 is still worlds better than some of the other big disappointments that we've seen like Diablo 3 and CoD 9,999.

Guildwars maybe, havent played the beta, so I can't speak of that. Not sure if Tera will count for the running since it was technically released in korea last year(?) year before that?

I would gladly vote ME3 up. And even for ending haters, I think it is still "the lesser of the evils"

I love the game, but because of the still horrible ending, I would write off any publication that even nominated it.

Just no, there are way too many other problems with the game besides the still terrible endings to ever justify GOTY.

EDIT:

, there's way too many flaws, and I don't want the worst entry into the Mass Effect series, that nearly was allowed to destroy the franchise, to be given any such accolades.

Sure, the ending may have been polished, but it's still a turd, and the rest of the game is far too linear, has uninspired antagonists, manages to create potholes and inconsistencies all over the place, barely takes into account prior choices in any meaningful way, and stripped away dialogue choice, options and variety in favour of gods awful autodialogue.

I'm not sure what I'd vote for as game of the year, but ME3 shouldn't be an option, it's just too much of a step down from its predecessors.

It's amazing how such a bad ending can be explaied and now feel like a good ending. With the ending not being terrible I think it's time to give ME series it's props as one of the greats in recent gaming history.

Did they explain the bad ending better?  Sure.  It's still a bad ending.

Introducing a brand new character in the last 5 minutes that hands you a choice of magic to win the game with isn't a good ending, and because of that ME3 does not deserve to even be in the running for GOTY.

it is a bad joke, yes. I mean the Enhanced Edition of Witcher 2 deserves to be a Game of the Year title. But the way I see GOTY editions are just the copy of the game I should have waited on and purchased.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mass Effect 3, but Game of the Year? Surely there is another game that fits the bill.

I can't think of a better game so far. Diablo 3 was merely decent, I lost interest in it surprisingly quickly. Borderlands 2 is they only other game coming out this year that I think is likely to beat ME3.

I would put ME3 in my personal GotY category. If, for anything, the highly successful and fun MP component. I am not an MP player but became addicted to this. Keep playing it to this day. And, now with the EC endings (which I loved), I am putting it up there.

"Disappointment of the Year" or "Redemption of the Year" seems better for ME3.

No. If it takes a dlc to make the ending acceptable, then I would hardly call that GOTY. Give the title to a game that got that right without a DLC. Then there is the autodiologue, fetch quests, Tali face issue etc.
