It's amazing how such a bad ending can be explaied and now feel like a good ending. With the ending not being terrible I think it's time to give ME series it's props as one of the greats in recent gaming history.
An ending to a game is a great part of a game a should call for more wight when finding the great game.
So IMO it cant get game of the year, ok the game is great in many places and some places superb, but it falls flat on it's ass in the ending and that is not a game of the year that does that.

Can we just renominate ME1 and 2, or just ME1? Either is better.
Yes I would renominate ME1

Fallout 3 Won GOTY... I think that ending sucked nuts too if I recall, then Bethesda repaired it quite a bit later

You fails need to give up that IT. Its plain retarded simple as that, and Bioware even knows it
BTW: 2012 GOTY = Mass Effect 3
Runner Up So Far = SSX

It's a no for a GOTY from me. Only confirmation of IT will make me enough to give ME3 a vote.

You'll be allowed to call GOTY when the year is coming to its close.
And no, ME3 doesn't deserve it. Too many objective flaws (Never mind the awful ending that the EC failed to rectify).

Correct with Fallout 3, the problem here is that BW wont do it and I think they are a bit defient, look at the refusal ending. Why can you start that when shooting the starkid, it is just to mok us? Well it has been shown in many review videos.
So I think that is a mok, it dosent feel funy.
But the endings pr. say does feel misplaced and does not belong in this genre and fanchise.

I understand your opinion, and slightly agree it could have been a Mock. But in my opinion, alot of ppl deserve it. Its like how would you feel if someone walked by you and your kid, and said "OMG, What an ugly child, and spit on him/her" How would you feel? I wouldn't be too thrilled
For the Record, I think they did a fantastic job on the EC endings, and I'm not the only one. But I am/was one of those ppl that just needed more closure and more explained, but the original endings never bothered me. So Kudos to Bioware for Me = )
EDIT: Before anyone posts, well they spit on us first.... Question: Who are we to judge what they do with their story and franchise? We pay for the game, thats it. And most ppl know that and just won't buy any future products, which is sad and I'm ok with, because I will continue to enjoy their games, and they won't

Start naming games that have been released within 2012 that are better than ME3, that push gaming as an art form/cinematic storytelling form further than ME3. You can't because there are none and will be none. Objectively there are zero games that have been released or are going to be that can compete with it. I'll bet $1,000 IGN gives ME3 game of the year.
If your primary criteria is a game that is inovative and advances the medium as an art form then there are better options out there than ME3 in this regard. In terms of inovation ME3 didn't bring anything to the table that wasn't there with ME2 back in 2010.
Of the games I've played that were released this year I'd say a more interesting choice would be "The walking Dead" released by Telltale Games. It is a hybrid adventure/RPG game. There are some action elements and some puzzle-solving elements as well as a lot of interactive dialogue. What has impressed me about the game is that most of the decisions are on a timer (usually a rather quick one) so you are generally forced to make a quick "gut" decision rather than sitting back and pondering the potential ramifications of each option. I haven't seen this mechanic used much in this type of game before and I have never seen it implemented as well as it is in this game.
In many cases the repurcussions of a decision aren't immediately clear but what you do see immediately is a change in the way the various NPC's react to you. I often found myself conflicted over who to support and have seen my perception of some of the NPC's change drastically. On subsequent playthrough of the first 2 episodes (5 are planned, only 2 released so far) I have found that making different choices can have provide a rather different experience. The story itself doesn't change (as of yet) but the mood certainly does as everyone treats you differently. This is a good thing as it adds a lot of replay value. It's certainly a nice change of pace from all of the auto-dialogue in ME3.
To summarize, ME3 was a decent game and relatively well polished (still feels half finished to me) but didn't really push any boundaries as far as innovation. "The Walking Dead" by Telltale isn't nearly as polished (relatively primitive graphics, controls can be a bit glitchy at times) but is innovative and makes use of a decision making mechanic rarely seen and rarely well implemented (and does a damn good job of it). If your main criteria for picking a "Game of the Year" is innovation then "The Walking Dead" is a better choice than ME3 since it actually did try to be innovative.
No my main criteria for Game of the Year is not "innovation". Weirdo japanese and asian games would dominate every year if that was the case. From my own Western perspective I judge games based on how they combine presentation (how smoothly well put together are they at drawing me into their world, are there minimum technical problems such as framerate errors, long load times etc), gameplay (Is it a fun game to play? Do I really enjoy the mechanics of the gameplay?) and story (Do I care about the story and characters in the game?)
Previous Games of the Year picks from me would include things like Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, Halflife 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 1 (same year as Bioshock I think, and it's a tough call but ultimately Bioshock should win), Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

i d vote it. up to now which other game is better this year??
Diablo 3, and when they're out Guild Wars 2 (if in this case) and Black Ops 2.
I played the beta, which isn't much, but D3 felt like scaled down WoW+ gauntlet legends.
LOL! You just sold me on it.

Bioshock Infinite had the biggest chance of getting the prize, but it got delayed... now the only real competition might be AC3, or maybe Halo 4...

even without the horrible ending the game has the awful stench of rushed, artificial difficulty, fetch quests out the wazoo, a bulk of the game felt like filler, bosses like Kei leng (whihc I guess would fall under artificial difficulty)shepard1038 wrote...
