So, many agree the EC was a big improvement, but did it rekindle your love or recapture the magic of the series??

It definitely rekindled my love for the series. There are still things I have issues with but as long as I ignore the existence of Synthesis it's fine. They addressed most of what I was annoyed with apart from that and it actually fit with how I'd been headcanon-ing the ending previously (the Catalyst is not to be trusted due to being frankly insane but you've got to make the best of a bad situation, etc, physical victory or moral victory). I was glad to have an epilogue, even if some of the slides were cheesy. So yeah, happy with what we've got. It should have been like this from the start but at least I didn't have to pay for it. Damn, Bioware, you've got me well-trained. Back to fangirl mode after months of raging!

No it didn't OP. All i wanted was a ending were Shepard is alive and reunites with his/her LI and crew. I wanted those little blue children with Liara. What they gave us was... ok. But the EC was half assed, all we mostly get is a picture slide show instead of in game cinematic's. It was very cheaply done.

Looks like i'm not alone, seconded

So far... Yes, actually. :)
Can't wait to hear more on this supposed Leviathan DLC leak.
It sounded VERY interesting...

It made the idea of replaying more appealing to me. I literally wrote off replaying past Cronos station, but now I'm interested in actually playing through to the end again with a new Shepard. The EC fixed A LOT, and I am happy they released it.

Essentially, I am no longer depressed and disappointed anymore. The endings still didn't live up the epic expectations that were generated, or do the series justice, but they came much closer than before.

I'm really happy Bioware did this, it shows they listen, obviously that can't make us all happy but I'm glad they tried.

My love for the series never really died... I'm glad they improved the endings though, because I thought they were originally quite bad, especially for an epic trilogy. Yeah there are still issues...I would have liked to have known if Shepard definitely survived or not in Destroy. I wanted a reunion with Tali, especially after the heart wrenching scene before the beam to the Citadel...But I think I can interpret that he did. I still think the second game is the best in the series overall, and I'm not sure if I could replay the third game a lot...but overall, a very satisfying trilogy, though they definitely should have done those endings the first time round!

Not as long as Starkid and his "solution" are still there.

Although I will admit that EC made the endings slightly less bad

No. Mass Effect ended with ME2 in my mind. At least their stories were expertly executed while remaining cohesive and logical. But ok I'll move on the original and extended endings of ME3.

To put it simply, I hated both of them. Sure the the extended cut managed to slightly bandage the garbage that was athe original ending, but you can only do so much to salvage what is essentially unsalvageable. If you pay close attention some of the cinematics in the extended cut had to be slightly altered in order to make way for the a more satisfying explanation of events. I mean not even Bioware could fix their own original endings without doing some slight retconning. That's how horrible the writing was! I"ve been carefully analyzing the extended cut and there are still logical fallacies and quite inmportant plotholes that are never addressed. To me the extended cut gives the illusion of being a proper conclusion to Shepard's story, but it is just that, an illusion. Upon closer inspection, it's still broken.

So no. The extended cut probably won't rekindle my passion for mass effect. It disappointed me greatly. Perhpas sometime in the future I'll replay the trilogy, when the disappointent has faded and I have forgotten how badly Bioware screwed up on perhaps their most famous franchise.

Nope

edit: ...but I do not think the EC gave that much either - plus I am very displeased with ME3 as a game in total, so I guess I may be the wrong to answer... ;-)

On first viewing, it definitely recaptured my love for Mass Effect series.

On reflection, it made me fall in love with it even more. The final choice was pivotal and challenged who I was in a person and whether the ends of saving everyone justified the means. It was morally and philosophically compelling, and I appreciated it for that more than anything else.

Didn't for me. Yesterday i uninstalled all the ME 3 games, got rid of Origin and per what i said (i'd do) here when the ending controversy was raging, i'll be moving on. In my eyes since being acquired by EA, the company i supported is gone. So i am gone. EC was (for me) their last chance to prove themselves and they failed. It was fun while it lasted, but all good things come to an end i guess.

No.

The EC was better, provided closure, and made me relatively content about the whole thing. It confirmed what I had assumed, filled in some of the holes (enough to distract from the remaining ones), and made me understand the consequences of my choices. All of the ending speeches gave me goosebumps for one reason or another; even Synthesis, which I still think is ridiculous, is uplifting in intent.

However, I no longer feel the spark that I used to about Mass Effect, or Bioware. I'm not excited about their next game. I don't really want to see what awful ridiculousness they're going to release next to meet their unreasonable, publisher enforced 2 year deadline.

When I play through the Extended Cut, I ask myself, "Why wasn't this in the game when it launched?".

Because 2 years isn't long enough to produce a AAA rpg-shooter with 30+ hours of gameplay. It never will be. Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 have both proven that Bioware cannot create the same level of quality on a Call of Duty schedule. If they continue on 2 year development cycles, the next Mass Effect will be a 6 hour first person shooter with quicktime events and competitive multiplayer.

I honestly don't think I'll be excited about Bioware again until I hear, and see proof, that they aren't slaughtering and cutting their games to ribbons to hit an unrealistic deadline. It's disrespectful to their fans, it's disrespectful to the game, and it's disrespectful to themselves as artists.

I personally loved the improved endings. They are not perfect, but they are a hell of a lot better, and about what I had been expecting quality wise when I first bought ME3. Only problem I really had, was Refuse was too short.

The endings never destroyed my love for the series. Even without the EC, the games are still pretty great. Those last bits were bad, no question, and I really did hate them. But it never took away from what I felt while playing the games. Sometimes bad choices and mistakes are made with great series. In fact, my favorites such as Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Stargate, Farscape, BSG, and a few others have all done something incredibly stupid or forced. Shouldn't dismiss them forever because of a really bad error in judgement.

You know, if I play the trilogy again with the mindset that synthetics are actually evil b******, sell Legion, and break up EDI and Joker, I could have a happy ending for that Shepard.

Yes it did. The EC made a huge impact, I don't feel abandoned by these endings unlike the original. The clarification of everything did the endings a huge favor.

I'm not sure.
I thought that Shepard at least deserves a chance to be reunited with his LI and have a family and a normal life.
He might have it with destroy, but we see nothing of it.

I really hope for a Reunion DLC, have a nice adventure where the crew can rescue Shepard and we see them together again.
I'd gladly pay for this opportunity. BW did it with ME 2 and LOTSB why not do it again?

I don't want to lie, the EC DLC did go a long way to fix things for me, even though I still feel that BW should at one point have stopped to act as if they didn't see the faults in their original ending.

Anyway, I'm not sure I still have as much faith in BW as I had before. I think I will wait for the fan reviews before I buy Dragon Age 3.

I was okay with the choice and the whole concept of the ending. Though I must say they were done pretty lazy/rush if you ask me. EC corrected that and I'm please about it. Actually give me a reason to finish my other Shepard.

No, but I think it will allow me to continue to play the trilogy (at least one more time), and it has renewed my appreciation for the splendid moments we do get in ME3.

I may not have much interest in Mass Effect's future, but I'm left looking forward to more single-player content that further fills out the game before the end, especially if we get more time with the squad (so hopefully they're taking a hint from the DA team and bringing the full squad back with new content for all the "mission" DLC).

There will always be people who just want the "ending sucks" train to never end, I think the EC fixed everything about the ending.

I never stopped loving the series. As upset as I was with the original endings, there are too many great things about this series that's not easily forgotten. The original ending was bitter though, and did make it sad to replay... EC has definitely fixed that. There is so much more promise in these new endings, more certainty of the future. Only thing that would have made it sweeter is actually seeing the LI reunion. But other than that, I thought the EC was great.
