Control was made creepy, and Synthesis was already creepy (the concept) and now sappy at the same time. 

I don't think Gamble is saying Keiji is alive. However I do think they want you to speculate on whether or not he is. Resurrection isn't out of the question since Shepard died and came back in ME2 as stupid as that was.

Bioware really tried to hard to make Synthesis the right ending and made it worse. Syntheis is an awful ending, no matter how many times you tell us how awesome it is, how happy everyone is and how civilization is advancing. It is the very definition of a Disney ending pro-enders were mocking people about.

And no, I don't hate Kasumi, I just think the ability of Synthesis to bring people back from the dead is stupid and yet another attempt to force this choice down our throats as the "best" ending, even if Bioware won't admit it out loud. Just reinforces my belief that Bioware's storytelling abilities can no longer be trusted.

This.  Mike Gamble doesn't say Keiji is alive.  Someone thought Kasmui was an unmasked Tali in the slide.  In the synthesis ending Kasumi gets to keep living in her fantasy world with Keiji's grey box.  If you watch the Destroy slides you see Kasumi sitting with what looks like a broken box (hence no virtual reality Keiji).
