TL;DR Did the fans overreact, or did we just want something we loved so much and had such high hopes for to succeed the way we knew it could, and be called a masterpiece that moved us all?

Ok so i posted a forum yesterday (http://social.biowar.../index/12789486) talking basically about if the EC worked for everyone, and i know we've all heard this, but this was among the comments;

They spent four months on this, put in meaningful content and shelled out money to give you this for free and everyone here on BSN is just chucking it away. Do you have any idea how long it takes to develop content? The costs and the serious development times?
I'm a simple Level Designer, and I know it takes ages for any projects to even move.

In this time, Bioware could have pumped out a dozen ALT Appearance, Weapon packs or even done MP DLC which would be paid, yet they gave the time to address fans and at give you it for free?
I find all this hating on EC to be a little ungrateful. They did fine.

Because some people think all thier yelling, crying, and OVEREACTING makes them think they deserve something.

to which i replied;

"Is it really so bad that we loved the game and story sooo much that we wanted it to realize it's full potential and shatter all our expectations on video gaming? Before the ending, i was expecting to be totally blown away and/or in tears after he credits rolled. Instead, i was... empty. I had never loved a game so much and been so moved by the story, and they slapped us in the face with that ending. Isnt it sad when a player made theory, IT, is better and more amazing than the ending that this writing team came up with? How could they script such a masterpiece, then screw it up so badly? No, i dont think we overreacted. We just wanted somehting we loved so much to shatter all our hopes and expectations set forth. This game could have gone down in history as a masterpiece, instead, it will go down as a case study. Its a shame, but i guess it wasnt meant to be."

so my question to you guys, what do you think about my reply? Did we overreact? Thoughts?

On a side note, in another comment, someone said BW accomplished it's mission because the majority seem to be accepting the ending enough to move on and forget the while thing. In my opinion, i think this ois incorrect to a degree. I think what the people are Accepting is the fact that the ending is what it is, and while the EC did a patch job to make a MEDIOCRE ending, this is all it will be; Mediocre. The ending will never realize it's full potential, thats just how it is.

Thoughts on that?

Sorry for the walls.

Lets put it like this, how many of those who worked on the games do you think are displeased with the ending?

Probably over 80% is my guess. This whole ending issue is something decided by very few people with a lot of influence.

I definitely think some people overreacted. Unfortunately this gave everyone else who disliked the ending (and wanted it to change) a bad name.

If we never reacted at all they wouldn't have ever changed the endings, and it would have remained a huge disappointment... instead of just the regular disappointment it is right now.

76% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

That said, how can it be an overreaction?  I mean, the ending sucked, a lot of people talked a lot about how much it sucked, and Bioware changed it.  News flash: when something sucks, people will complain about it.  It's almost amazing that Bioware George Lucased it at all.

the over react is a negative champ, because without it we would've never gotten th Amazing EC we got FOR FREE, only goes to show that if you cry loud enough you'll get your pacifier

Overreact? Nope.

I've seen possibly one of the best sci-fi trilogies of the generation destroyed by the worst ending I have EVER seen.

Also, the EC did nothing to really help at the fundamental level.

I did say it was a guess though, I have of course no way to know for sure.

but realize the people that are still complaining deserve nothing, because the EC was phenomenal and at this point if your not satisfied then bioware is gonna just say so play another game hahaha and that i agree with

Yes. However, EC proves that the execution of the original ending was really bad. Because now, the ending is actually at least OK

No. Some did, but as a whole we did not.

Those were genuinely the worst endings I'd ever seen in a game.

 No, the original sucked. The replacement is acceptable. Life goes on.

Bioware did the right thing with the EC, wrong thing with the original.

With the tantrums positively reinforced, Bioware better be prepared to endure more whining in the future.

I personally benefited from the EC (it is glorious) but in principle, I still feel that demaning a new ending is wrong. Giving feedback is a consumer's entitlement though.

ever since dragon age 2 all this fanbase has done is overeact. this community is full of trolls who like to hate on bioware just to hate them. even when bioware does something good it gets hate. and when mass effect 3 came out within 10 minuts of realease the game has a user score of 2.2 and those people didnt even play the game they just sat there like low lifes and trolled the game because they felt like it. before dragon age 2 this was a great community. but ever since dragon age 2 and the constant trolling i have come to dislike this community more then the valve community....and thats hard to accomplish

Calling for state involvement is an overreaction.

Voicing displeasure in a polite manner is not.

Yes we did. We expected bioware to deliver. Unfortunately we were too optimistic of an EA run bioware... so is ourfault in the end.

No, they gave us crappy endings on the original discs with reused cinematics colored differently.

Yesterday they gave us awesome, differentiated endings.

That one guy who filed the FCC complaint overreacted.
