Assuming conventional war was plausible is it really the right choice?

I mean given the choice of all the endings or fighting and possibly winning aren't the choices of the Crucible still better than getting slaughtered by Reapers and only a few surviving. Except Synthesis because I don't care what anyone says turning everyody into a hybrid is sick and wrong and stupid. Mostly just stupid.

Each ending has its upside and downside. Synthesis has a lot of positive points to it. The knowledge of all the past civilizations, unlimited advancement in technology, the entire galaxy being united, most likey the most prosperous of all endings. The problem is the uniformity. For the time being, the species seem to still be different enough, but perhaps over time all civilization will look the same.

Shepard has a chance to end the war here and now. Whether or not (s)he decides to use it is up to the player. How Shepard uses it is up to the player.
The Crucible sort of reminds me of the atomic bombs used in WWII. I was taught in school that Truman had the military deploy to prevent US military casualties at the cost of killing thousands of innocent Japanese citizens.

No, because the crucible as presented is even less plausible.
