The star child's circular logic still strikes me as ignorant and rash. I know the original ending had the Reapers created to stop dark energy or something like that (still didn't make sense though). Is it that hard to think of a better explanation for them killing everyone?
I feel like Bioware included this as part of the Reaper's reason for genocide, but it seems to be the most logical to me and they should have focused on it: population control. Ultimately, the population of the galaxy would fluctuate without bounds until resources and space in the galaxy would be all used up (this is also why I can't support the synthesis ending, as this outcome is inevitable in the future of that ending). The Reapers would just kill everyone to prevent this from occurring. It might be disgusting, but hey it's logical.
A more logical motivation for Reapers
