So, I didn't have this problem the first couple of times playing through the game after release, but after finishing a new character from ME2 and attempting to complete the game for the EC ending I can't avoid this bug.
I researched and saw that this freeze happened often post-release for italian versions of the game on xbox and I would like to submit that this problem has reoccured on the PS3. It is possible that I got lucky the first time through but I am worried subsequent patches may have caused it.
If other PS3 players are having the glitch please post to give a sense of the scope of this problem. As for now I will keep restarting my system but it is quickly approaching the likeness of banging my head against a brick wall.

So, I deleted the EC dlc/patches and redownloaded them and the mission worked on the first try! Awesome, right? Wrong because the same freezes happened on the very next mission, Sur'Kesh. I'm currently DLing the EC DLC again and my freeze count for this playthrough is roughly 9.. man I hope this problem fixes itself.

I'm about to start a new playthrough so i'll see if its common, otherwise maybe its a sign that your old ps3 is dying or maybe you need to make more hard drive space.

it's possible that the issue is hard drive space.. I have 9 GBs free but that is significantly less than when I first played this game. I'm not too sure it's my PS3 since I just played through ME2 without any problems.

Its not you. Its the new content. I've been having more general buggyness all across the board. My game hitches and lags now- it didn't do that before the extended cut. Not since the last patch. I've also noticed buggyness in the cutscenes where people's eyelids get all squinty and then they stretch off the face lol! I haven't had a hard freeze yet (knock on wood), but I did have the game fail to load a mission- I can't remember if it was Priority: Menae or an N7 quest, but I did have to restart my console. It worked the second time though. And when it failed to load it was during the splash screen of the cargo bay, right before you deal with your weapon load out- it just said 'loading' and the icon was moving but nothing was happening. Now we need another patch.

I'm really considering deleting the EC DLC and just playing up to the Cerberus Base before installing it again. This way I won't have to delete and install the dlc after each mission; assuming that the DLC is the problem. I know it isn't anything to do with the patches since I haven't installed them the past 2 times... yeah it's a real bummer but I think I'll restart to see if it's the dlc or something else.
