Hi guys,

I just picked up the PC version of Dragon Age today and after getting it installed and getting into the game without a problem the game crashed on me.  The problem did not produce an error and has not occured until i've made it into the actual game (after all of the prerendered cutscenes and starting menus).  The time it takes to crash ranges from a few seconds to a full minute or two and doesn't seen to crash at any particular point.  The crash will either freeze my computer completely and black screen or cause the computer to restart.  The specs for my system are:

Windows 7
AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor   2.30 GHz
2.00 GB RAM
32-bit Operating System
ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series   verson 9.10

I've tried running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP, changing the graphics settings, and disabling McAfee, but nothing seems to be making a noticable difference.  I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if so, if they come up with any solutions.  Any help at all would be appreciated.

Mine too. I've made it a fair way into the game and at the same bloody cutscene it just keep CTD'ing for reasons unknown. Really frustrating stuff.

The problem seems to be avoided, at least temporarily, by turning off the game's sound. This probably means that it has something to do with a conflicting audio driver. I'm trying to work on a more permanent solution, but this should help people with my problem to get past any singular occurrence of the crash.

*Edit*   Played some more of the game with sound disabled and it crashed again.  Back to the drawling board.

a larger thread being discussed here. Apparently, all people experiencing this kind of computer jamming crash are using ATI cards.

I have NVidia GTX285 - x2 SLI on my machine and it still crashes. So it is not just ATI.

Playing today and the game crashed without fail every 30 minutes. It didn't matter what region I was in.

When this thread was new, it was off topic.  It is still off topic.  But the moderators (at least one, anyway) claim to not have time to move threads to where they belong.  It's a Tech Question, and official tech support is on the EA site, although we have a self-help user to user forum that is erronneously labelled "Tech Support", when that's not what it really is.

check your CPU temperature. DA:O is very CPU intensive and has gotten my computer to overheat and no other game as ever done that. and i am above recommended specs. you don't need to do anything for it todo this standing still with no activity still heat up the CPU and can cause crashes.

so your garphic card doesn't matter in this case. A cleaning of the CPU fan/heatsink reduced my crashes down to nearly none existance. But i will mount a better cooling system so i don't burn my CPU out in the long run.

I downloaded Dragon Age Origins onto my new laptop and it just froze/crashed for no apparent reason. I had just turned on pc (so it wasnt overheating)  and playing for about 10 minutes when it froze. I had to Ctrl+Alt+delete to get out of the frozen game. i had been playing the game for about a month without a problem and I am well into the game. I restarted my laptop and tried to play the game again and about 10-15 min later, the game froze/crashed again. Any solutions/help for this?

Well i don't think it has anything to do with computer not having enough power to play the game or ati or cpu temp.  I have a core I7 950 liguid cooled, running 3 GTX 465's in sli, and 12 gigs of ram.... Same stupid problem. it'll play anywhere from 15 minutes down to just a few seconds and it crashes. Sorry, Not trying to bum everyone out, i'm just saying, i think its just the game. HAHA!

Please don't resurrect year-old threads, or even 2 month old threads. Technical issues should be posted to the appropriate tech support forum. Thank you.

End of line.
