To OP, I'm really sorry that happened to you, that must have been very frightening.

I personally carry a small pepper spray with me most of the time when I go out. I've only ever had to use it once .. I gave a small spritz with it into his direction (not even right into his face) .. only a tiny bit got into his eyes and the discomfort was enough for him to stop following and harassing me.

I assume you're probably a guy and I'm not sure if that's seen as a "sissy" thing to do or whatever (guys can be kinda dumb about that sort of thing, sorry heh), but it would be a useful thing to have no matter what some other guys think.

You could try carrying pepper spray too if you wanted to, it might help discourage those people from hurting and basically robbing you.

It's true...I stopped following her almost immediately after. That stuff stings really bad.

You are so lucky. If he was following you and harrasing you, i'm sure you know what could of happened if you were alone.

I hear so many stories online about **** like this happening. It brings me down really badly.

If your in the UK, you know chavs can be pretty scary. Sure they act hard, but there are some who really are psychos and i was a victim of those psycho chavs. The guy was massive compared to me and i got my ass handed on a silver platter complete. I was really paranoid after school when walking back home.

Never ****** off a chav, they always will have mates to hunt you down.

Chavs? They're nothing. Just take a weapon with you and you can deal with them. At least I can. I trained for several years in weapon martial arts and I'm not afraid of hurting anyone who would seek to hurt me. I actually put somebody in hospital once but it was self-defense.

The only advice I can offer here is that people should start learning how to defend themselves. We don't live in a peaceful world and everyone should know how to fight. Many humans can be like animals and hurt others for no clear or logical reason. Alternatively if you don't like hurting others, learn to free-run and dodge so you can retreat from fights.

Of course if you can avoid a fight and solve it diplomatically, do so. If someone can be reasoned with then try but if they're intent on hurting you then you've got to fight back. I love hearing stories of how people have fought back against their attackers and beat their asses because it shows how injustice doesn't always prevail.

This comment made my day. Your Shepard even looks like a stalker (no offense) which makes the comment even more funnier.

I grew up in a dodgy neighbourhood so know that it can be terrifying when it happens. But as an adult I've had two or three incidents where people have attempted to mug me, they have yet to be successful, one I even left with the guys knife. It was like a reverse mugging.

When I go walking now I always take something that can be used as a weapon, when walking the dog I take a hiking pole but it could be something as simple as one of those tiny pocket size cans of deodorant to spray in their eyes, a key between your fingers for punching or if its dark a small bright torch to momentarily blind them. It doesn't have to be something that will do massive damage, just anything to give you a brief moment of surprise or advantage to either finish the fight or get away.

The reason why i sort of 'fear' them is because every chav i know is linked to each other. ****** one off and at a momets notice, they could come and brick my house any day. I have seen my friends having to be taken home in cars because a literally 15 chavs were waiting outside for him or the police have to be called in.

I know some chavs who are seriously just thuggish and would beat me up for no reason. I got chased becuase i don't smoke or gave someone a tenner.

I also rather not have my house or family assaulted. My face is far too known as i did know quite a few chavs, i'm not friends with them but neither am i enemies with them but they will beat me up if they had a reason to and they mostly know where i live or the area i live around.

My sister knows some chavs who act big but are nothing but muppets but they know some chav thugs who are willing to re-arrange my face and there are some real nasty bastards.

It is not the single chav i am scared of, i can look after myself and i can throw a mean left or right hook. It's just i really do not want to be gang mugged or have my family involved.

Why do everyone think chavs are all weak and pathetic? The some are muppets but the rest are all willing to play dirty and use anything.

I hate to say it but being armed helps. I always carry at least a knife, saved me once when I was threatened while cutting through an alley. I didn't have to use it, but just seeing I was armed made my attacker retreat.

However, if you carry a weapon make sure you're trained in its use and that you are willing to use it. I had a relative who carried a gun for protection but wasn't willing to use it, when he was threatened he fired some warning shots into the air but not at his attackers... they took his gun and killed him with it.

Thats the problem with chav's, a lone chav is often a weak spineless creature that can easily be dispatched. The problem is that chav's, not unlike goblins, tend to attack en masse. They will rarely attack without back up and in the rare event that you do manage to confront a lone chav, no matter how badly you beat it, it will return with greater numbers, not unlike sand people. Often times people can become the target of an entire chav family simply by defending themselves from a loan chav or a group of chavs containing one of the family members. In the rare event that the chav doesn't return with back up then you should be prepared, it's going to try to sue you for damages. That's right, it wants you to pay for it's tracksuits, cans of stella and hideous car and you will probably end up having to pay it too.

I'm guessing you live in an area full of them? Not me so they can have fun tracking me down if I beat up one of their friends (good luck to them, even the police can't find me for my chaotic good deeds). Chavs are pathetic because they rely on their group to back them up in a fight.

I can understand while people are scared of groups though and see where you're coming from.

That's it. If the attacker sees that you are hesitant to use the weapon or fight back then they will exploit that. Some people are too good for their own health sometimes. I seriously hate muggers and people who steal from the common folk. Stealing against a big organization I have no problem with but stealing from an ordinary working person? No.

I never go anywhere alone, especially at night. For security I have pepper spray and a .357. Living in a rural area though, there's thankfully not as much danger.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you can, get a concealed carry license. Muggers sometimes kill their victims because they're mental, on drugs, and/or want to dispose of the witness. Don't risk being murdered by scumbags like that, use lethal force if you feel like your life is in immediate danger.

Solution 1: Martial Arts and Blunt Weapons

Solution 2: Release the hounds!
You have to carry at least two of them with yourself ;)

Solution 3: Use Sneak and Stealth techniques.

Solution 4: Use Diplomacy and Persuasion skills.

like others have said happens at least once in their life

theres always a choice and theres two outcomes staying alive and losing your stuff or becoming dead and losing your stuff.
if you can truly take on the attackers beat them up, but dont murder them.unless you know for a fact youll get away with it and if you happen to be ill(use it as a defense tatic.people will eat that up in court)
if you can not give them your belongings and run for the hills

me im violent and a chaotic.but even im not that stupid

Pffft. Batman? I'm a ninja. And I know a number of us have done martial arts for a number of years, but discretion is always the better part of valour. Whether you've got practical experience or not. And most of people who've done that will say the same, it's not to be used for an ego trip.
