I just "re-discovered" the way to fix the bug where you complete the quest but the journal tell's you "there's still more bandits". It was on the old forums, but I didn't find this on the new, so I had to play a little with the toolset to find out this fix. I already posted the fix in another thread, but I thought I'd post it as a thread of it's own so that it's easier to find (hope it doesn't count as flooding). Anyway, basically what you need to do is 'restart the quest' with the toolset. Here's a walkthrough:

DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!

1- Download and install the toolset

2-Open the toolset

3-Click on File -> Open File

4-Search
for the .das file of your latest savegame and open it. It should be
something like My Documents\\\\Bioware\\\\Dragon
Age\\\\Characters\\\\YOURCHAR\\\\Saves\\\\Slot_X\\\\YOURSAVENAME.das where,
obviously, YOURCHAR is the name of your char, X is the slot that your
last save is and YOURSAVENAME is the name you gave your save.

5-Click on SAVEGAME_CAMPAIGN -> SAVEGAME_JOURNAL -> SAVEGAME_JOURNAL_ACTIVE_LIST and a bunch of numbers will appear.

6-Check those numbers one by one until you find one that has the entry "den200pt_alley_justice".

7-Delete ONLY THIS NUMBER.

8-
Now, in game, open that save, go to the Denerim Chantry Board, remark
the quest (It should be unmarked if you did everything right) and go
searching for the guys you need to kill (the group of bandits witch
wasn't registered by the quest before SHOULD show up. No guarantee,
though.)

The only person up untill now that tested it was myself, and it worked. Could anyone else test it?

I tested it just now, and it worked for me too. I had the same problem you did. The only thing that threw me in your description was that at first I tried to delete only the line that had the entry "den200pt_alley_justice" instead of the whole journal entry in which that entry occurs. Once I figured that out, no problem.

Thanks for the solution. Soooo glad to have it fixed. :-)

That's great for PC users. Us 360 users, on the other hand, are SOL. Then again, we're always SOL, so...

Attempting this... Open the .das and the Toolset freezes for a moment, and I get a pop up saying 'Out of memory', while the info window displays 'There are no items to show'. Any idea why?
This quest bug hanging there has infuriated me for ages!
Was so pleased to find a potential fix!

Doesn't work for me; when I try to load the .das file I get an "Out of Memory" dialog popup. I have 8 Gigabyte of RAM, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I guess I'll just have to live with it or wait for an 'official' fix...

For those finding this thread for the first time (like me) and getting the Out of memory error, here is a potential fix (depending on your system)

Not sure how relevent this is now, but I have never ran across the bug, until today.  So I followed the steps and WHAMMO!! it worked like a charm.  Not sure if this is helpful or not, but I did Save Game in one of the actual back alley spots, and only had to fight one band of thugs and the quest updated.

This did not work for me... I could not reget the quest from the Chanter's board after erasing the entry. However I found another workaround:

Cut the numbered entry with 'den200pt_alley_justice' out from SAVEGAME_JOURNAL_ACTIVE_LIST.
Paste it into SAVEGAME_JOURNAL_COMPLETE_LIST.
Change SAVEGAME_JOURNAL_QUEST_COMPLETED from 0 to 1.
Change SAVEGAME_JOURNAL_QUEST_UPDATED from 1 to 255.
Change SAVEGAME_JOURNAL_TEXT from whatever number it is to 296117.

Save the changes.  You will miss out on the reward (a few gold) but the quest will now show up as fully completed in your Quest Journal.

If you REALLY want that reward, don't change QUEST_UPDATED or JOURNAL_TEXT.  You can then load your savegame and hand the quest in to Chanter Rosamund.  You will get the reward but the quest text will bug out and still say 'talk to Chanter Rosamund'.  You can then save, reopen the toolset and make the other changes to then fully complete the quest.  That's a lot of work for a pretty paltry reward though.

p.s. I too had the memory error in the toolset popup and as others have said, http://social.biowar...11689/blog/707/ provided the solution.

That bug?
Is that the one where you go to the 3 back alleys to kill the bandits?
That wasnt bugged for me at all... the journal/quest updating thing was rubbish and takes over a minute to update... i had that the mission was incomplete... and i went back to each area and when i got to the one that didnt update, it updated normal and the quest was complete =)

I attempted to download the toolset but it failed to load due to the SQL 2005 portion. I did some looking up on it, but it was beyond me how to fix it as I am not very good at hardware or system work. Assume that I just need to start my game over and make sure I get the quest from chanters board before I ever see Sergeant Kylon. So I can avoid the bug altogether.
