Try playing Super Mario. Always a happy ending. Until the Princess is Kidnapped again...

I'm sorry, I'm still not seeing any difference here. Oooooo, I get some SLIDES. With a narrator!

Destroy still kills synthetics.
Control is still what TIM wants and will likely result in the Reapers attacking again.
Synthesis is still just awful and horrible.

If I had known that having Legion in my party in 2 would have literally made no difference - if his sacrifice meant NOTHING - if the geth obtaining sentience was just a joke, I would have shot him out an airlock.

OP, bravo brother. Many of the kids here have no idea what gaming was like 10, 15, 20 years ago. Back then, you could save the day and tell Eggman, Bowser, or even Umbrella to suck it. I can't stand this fascination with grimdark, bittersweet or depressing endings being obligatory. What happened to escapism and victory? Sunshine and rainbows you say? DAMN STRAIGHT. I get to enjoy my story and say that I didn't have to imagine it to be happy. I'm too old to "headcanon" with Barney & Friends.

With the EC implemented, it's pretty clear that you win in this game.

However I guess everyone has their own idea of winning, and for some winning means saving the day without having to deal with any negative repercussions, and being treated to an ending in which the hero lives happily ever after. That's fine.

Personally, I don't play video games to win specifically, I don't play to satisfy some wish fulfillment to become some powerful godlike ubermensch, it's more just a hobby to pass the time. Occasionally an emotional experience can be had, and I may be a little disappointed sometimes, but I don't get too attached to the results.

Well, I think I know what you mean...

It is that since ME1 and ME2 the majority of fans actually believed they could really kick the Reapers arse for good. We hoped to rally the galaxy, put the entire might of all raes against the Reapers and, jsut as the Trailers promised and prepared us, we wanted to take Earth back and make the Reapers pay...

And all of this on OUR and Shepard's OWN terms. Sadly, the endings still feel like a "granted" victory, if at all. They took out the boss-fight for being "too video-gamey", and I think that says it all. I want a video-gamey ending, a last stand against the ultimate foe. I want to be the one that in the end is the one who puts an end to all this...and not by grabbing rods, jumping into light or shooting tubes...I want to shoot the bad guy, both with bullets and words...

And no, dooming the galaxy to lose so the next cycle may win (refusal) is not the same. The current ending denys most players and fans since ME1 one importan feeling: That of triumph, of real victory.

And no matter how cheesy a last effort conventional-victory would have seemed, or how silly an actual super-weapon blasing the Reapers to pieces may have looked...I am sure the vast majority of fans would never ever have complained, no, they would have applauded, because seeing Reapers blowing apart is what we wanted to see in the end. It was what this fight was about for us, and what the series and shepard always implied

This is, for me, why the ending never worked. It left us helpless and unsatisfied, "actionless" and without a real climax to the story.

Closure and clarification..all nice and sound...but it is the climax I really missed in ME3...

The OP should play Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

Every race ends with "YOU'RE A WINNER" in golden letters.

That may be the reason why you play video games. I play video games for the same reason i read novels, to experience a story. I was happy that they included the "reject" ending; and it doesn't really matter to me if my protagonist lives or dies. The beef i have with the ending im given with the "reject" ending is the lack of cinematic showing the army my Shepard built going down guns blazing.

Fantastic to hear.

I however am still forced into doing the reapers bidding and into killing myself. Seems we have very different definitions of winning.

Sacrifice.  In life, you do such things.  This game tries to emulate real life in a way.

Shoot the tube, shoot the tube. Keep picking the Crayola endings we fought so hard to get rid of.

No.

Crayola boxes have at least eight crayons.

At least all the COOL ones do.

But the REAL badasses have a sixty four pack.

burnt sienna was f***** useless!

OMG MY FAVORITE WAS GRANDMA'S APPLE GREEN.

OMG OMG OMG.

Crayolas got nothing on those smelly markers where each color had a flavor of smell. What were those called again? Those things were so popular kids in my class asked me to borrow them over regular markers even though they were almost out of juice.

Starchild controls the reapers. Starchild provides all your options. Ergo you are doing the reaper's bidding.
