I'm really enjoying my dual wield rogue atm...used the boosts from the fade to get my strength up to 20, cunning is at 26 with 20 willpower...all the rest is going into dexterity which is at 58 at level 17.
I took specializations in Duelist & Assassin; with an aim whilst levelling was to get the evasion rogue feat, the keen defense duelist feat, as well as most of the two-weapon fighting feats.
...as for equipmenrt, at the moment, she's wearing the first enchanters robes LOL...+9 defense ftw! My armor value is really low, however I'm wearing anything I can find to boost defense, which is sitting near 150 atm...so I don't really get hit an awful lot
...plus I always take Wynne with me who I've set up as a support heal-o-bot!

Take a look at these builds. Trust me, unless you want to be a generic rogue who just backstabs with no real plan like Lordwolf89, I'd suggest you look at these.
Archer:
To be an Archer as a rogue, you'll want to dump almost every skill point into Archery, save for getting the Evasion branch of the Rogue skill tree. Lethality is especially good for an Archer because they should focus on Dexterity and Cunning, and putting a few points into Willpower and Constitution. Besides skills and attributes, you'll want to use something may people forget about, arrows. Using a fire arrow, or an ice arrow, or eve the arrow of filth can improve your archery a lot. You'll be putting down people after only a few arrows. For specializations, use Ranger only, so you can focus on those summoning skills as a back-up in case you get attacked a lot. A good bow to use is the Spear-Thrower (you get it from the Forge Master in A Paragon of Her Kind).
Assassin:
The name implies exactly what it is. If you've played LOTR: Conquest, you're a Scout. Your main gig is to go invisible, and stab somebody in the back and have the rest of your party charge into battle. An Assassin should only use Dual Daggers to output a massive DPS (Damage Per Second). Focus on Dexterity and Cunning since Daggers use your Dexterity, not strength. Don't forget to take up the Feign Death branch of the Rogue skill tree. Combat Movement and Coup De Grace are important for any Assassin. And obviously, use the Assassin specialization, and get every Stealth skill. Being able to use Mark of Death while invisible is a handy trick against tough bosses.
Warrior:
The name is as it says. You have a rogue, but dump almost all of your points into Strength/Dexterity to become a warrior, but with the added bonus of backstabbing. However, you can't use Sword/Shield or Two-Handed talents. Bummer.
Hybrid:
A Hybrid is a unique Rogue. It's a combination of either an Archer/Assassin or Archer/Warrior. For the Assassin combo, you need Combat Stealth or it'l be pointless and you should stick to Archery. With the bow, you should charge into battle and Pinning Shot/Crippling Shot any enemy you want to put down fast. Then, switch to your melee weapon and go to town. Any enemy should be easily killed if you do it right. For the assassin, you should Pinning Shot/Crippling Shot an enemy, then go invisible (Combat Stealth) and get the enemy like a ninja. Hybrids are kind of hard to use, but are more tactical than anything.

Dont forget willpower. Granted it has a bit smaller part to play but it will enhance dual weapon moves and special techniques and your deterity as well. For my rogue I usually focus on will, dex and cunning in the few level ups. Then I focus on strengh till I get to at least 30 because I wield a sword and dagger till I get either the Aodh or Gift of the Gray axe. You need that strength if plan to wield a sword with dagger and for medium grade armor.
If you are pretty quick and fast you don't have to worry to much about constitution but that is also something to consider. I usually keep mine around 18-20. My other high stats make up for it. Since you only get 3 points to use when leveling it can be hard to choose. It sometimes a matter of just playing around with your character once you leveled to see where you need more boost. Good luck!

I play on xbox so im kind of forced to play as a cunning rogue, but i dump everything into dex/str for the first few levels, 20str, rest in dex, then i pump up cunning and once cunning and dexterity are even i basically keep them balanced. May not be the most epixxx of builds but it prepares you for playing with Awakening.

I played my rogue differently. I dumped a lot of points into strength so I could wear heavier armor. At level 9 I had a 27 strength, 24 dexterity, 19 cunning. I was playing the game solo and the heavy armor helped against damage from being pounced by enemies who had a tendency of trying to knock you down. I also specialized in Ranger and Duelist. By the end of the game (level 20) I had a 61 strength, 35 dexterity, 16 willpower, 24 cunning, and 15 constitution (before armor and bonuses).

Focusing on dexterity works very well - you don't need to put anything above light armor on a rogue, and a dex focused rogue wielding dual daggers (for the dexterity bonus to damage) is a real monster when it comes to dealing damage fast, and is hard to kill due to being so difficult to hit.
As for strength you don't need to spend many points on it, as the bonuses from certain equipment + the bonuses from fade take you up fairly high. I think a certain very powerful helm with a strength requirement of 20 was the only reason I had to go that far with my rogue.
I didn't boost willpower either - at most a point or two - as the bonuses from fade take you far enough up, I think.
Dex was my primary stat, and cunning a second, with heavy focus on dex. I think by the it felt as if my character could almost take on the darkspawn horde himself.
I guess a rogue wielding larger weapons is doable, but that kind of a rogue has to split points between strength and dexterity. Might try it some day, but I was really impressed by my pure dex rogue.
