I have read various posts about modding but I have some questions since there seems to be some information that is either conflicting or rather I just didn't understand what they meant.

This specifically relates to modding the weapon stats, for example, increasing the rate of fire for the Viper in single player.  Apparently this should be able to be accomplished via a modification of the stats in the coalesced.ini file.  If you look in an editor for the Viper under sfxweapon and find the Viper, the rate of fire variables could easily be manipulated.

Here is where my questions come in.  In theory you are allowed to modify the single player game as much as you want unless it affects the balance in multiplayer.  Cheating in multiplayer is bannable.  I have seen some passing references that the stats for weapons in MP are stored locally, but if you look in this section of the coalesced, the Viper's stats are clearly not consistent with it's stats in multiplayer.  Nor do the "Weekly Balance Changes" seem to affect the single player stats.  However, I have seen posts where people claimed that the coalesced does indeed contain stats for multiplayer in it, and coalesced is checked when you start up multiplayer to look for signs of cheating.

Is there anyone that could clarify this for me?  For arguments sake, if I were to change the Viper ROF to 240rpm in this line in coalesced, would that get me banned from multiplayer?  Does multiplayer even use any of these values, it doesn't appear to since multiplayer weapon stats are different.

You could try asking the MP section as well. Honestly I have heard both ways as well :/. And I've only had one personal experience with a modded weapon.

I was playing a round with someone and we were able to talk as we both had mics. He was using a Raptor and was absolutely tearing apart everything. I commented about it and he told me that he had modded his Raptor's base damage. In the next game I tried using it and laughed at how easy it was to kill everything. The modder was hosting both rounds. The next day I entered a random match with a Raptor to see if he really had been modding. There was a massive difference in my damage out put. So it would seem that if the host has modded something then it will affect your game as well in MP. But if your not the host then I have no idea.

You could always create 2 coaleseced files. One modded for SP and one un-modded for MP. Just have to remember to switch between the two.

Yeah. Maybe I will make a thread in the MP section.
