The thing that strikes me most about the avatars is when you see, say, three people in a row in a thread with the chicken avatar, and I think "why are they spamming their own thread" before realising it's two or three different users.

I find that the people with Kaiden avatars are the ones who want to call everyone "entitled" .  Just in general, based on my personal observations, anyway.

This is a very interesting topic! It's something I try to keep in mind whenever I am on the forums in the role of moderator-- I would hate to think I ban someone just because, for example, they have a DA:O custom avatar with an incredibly stupid look on their face.

That said, this is really not ME3 related, so I am moving it to the Off-Topic forum, where it can continue unabated.

I always got the impression that nine out of ten people with a Kaidan avatar were guys with the hots for him, at least back in the old days. Perhaps they're more forgiving/apologetic towards Bioware because they got what they wanted?

I don't think it was always so.  But as more games are released, with each new title getting a set of forums all their own, it sinks lower and lower into the forum sediment.  If it's any consolation, the super-secret moderator forums, where we talk about all of you behind your backs, is even further in the basement

Oh yeah, that definitely happens to me. But pretty much all the people I interact with here on a regular basis - in other words, the ones I'd have a pre-formed opinion - use custom avatars these days. So it doesn't happen every often.

I am curious as to what people think when they see a pony avatar spouting pro-Alliance Renegade dogma.

This is vital to the running of the forum. Every one I've been to has one of these.

I do this. I even imagine ppl's avatars saying the things they post as the character they are sometimes. Like if someone has Thane as an Avatar I assume the things they typed should be read all calm and Thane like.

Interestingly, doing a quick, informal, non-scientific check of all those who have posted in this thread thus far-- it appear those with custom avatars are much more likely to have been temporarily banned at least once than users with standard pics.

Hmmm...perhaps the influences are not so subtle-- or perhaps custom avatars are symptomatic of something else.
