Interestingly, doing a quick, informal, non-scientific check of all those who have posted in this thread thus far-- it appear those with custom avatars are much more likely to have been temporarily banned at least once than users with standard pics. Hmmm...

Priestly and Woo are just jealous of how stylish my avatars are.

Everyone is just jealous of my cute Turian eyes.

You banned me because you couldn't handle the cute.

I always kind of expect people to look like their avatar in real life. Bad habit that.

Its funny you should say that...

Perhaps.  Although Stan seems to love his Voluses (Volae?  Voli?) and as long as the  emoticon exists, Chris seems to be content.  My favorite among the Mods/Staff, though, is Euryterid's.

Bears make everything horrible. That's why they're not invited to Pyroland.

Hmmm...perhaps the influences are not so subtle-- or perhaps custom avatars are symptomatic of something else.

And the plot thickens...

I do this. I even imagine ppl's avatars saying the things they post as the character they are sometimes. Like if someone has Thane as an Avatar I assume the things they typed should be read all calm and Thane like.

I've always associated anime and lightning avatars with you. XD

You guys all got it wrong. Pink haired lady avatars are what make this forum what it is. Could you imagine BSN without seeing my collection of them obnoxiously thrown in your face every time you sign in? Didn't think so.

I assume my avatar makes people want to throw a ball around and hang out on roofs.

I think it may also be that these people you're referring to have changed their custom avatars multiple times.  I for one, have had my custom avatar for quite a long time, and have never been banned.

It is always fun to have the person arguing with you get banned in mid-argument though.  It's a bit of a pleasant surprise sometimes.  For instance, does anyone remember Shandepared?  He and I got into a heated argument one time, and it turns out someone had reported him (or a mod just happened by) and after I typed my rebuttal, I noticed the ban notification.  It made me smile.

I also agree about Residual Avatar Aversion ™.  If I see a Loghain avatar, I'll think of Smudboy and get irritated for no reason.

Symptomatic of spending too much time on the BSN, maybe. Mine was for swearing.

It was worse a couple of months ago: Lightning avatars everywhere.

I'm probably the only one that didn't get mine for something behaviour related...

When I see a Custom Avatar, I think dedicated and skilled.

In my case it was only being patient as I had to wait for at least six months for this avatar to upload!

I've never been banned... of course I don't even visit the forums often enough to give anyone any reason or opportunity to ban me.

I don't think I associate any personality of the post with the poster's avatar... however I do tend to only see the avatar and not even look at the username most of the time. Which isn't a very good idea since I tend to confuse everyone with everyone then.

Ghost is always the one with a Saito and/or Louise avatar, so my new avatar confuses me to the point where I've gone insane.

I keep seeing my own posts and thinking "Hey, Ghost's online", but alas...

I find that people with Chakwas avatars are always pretty cool.

I think you're the only person I've seen with a Chakwas avatar. She doesn't get a lot of love.

We do seem to be a rare breed among the masses of Tali, Liara, Garrus, Volus and chicken avatars, but I've seen a few besides myself.

Also, that Tiger-dude avatar always makes me think the person is going to be serious business, a troll, or both.

This is a very interesting topic! It's something I try to keep in mind whenever I am on the forums in the role of moderator-- I would hate to think I ban someone just because, for example, they have a DA:O custom avatar with an incredibly stupid look on their face.

That said, this is really not ME3 related, so I am moving it to the Off-Topic forum, where it can continue unabated.

I was completely unaware that we even had an off-topic section. Now that I know, I see it is alllllllllll the way down there. Well, I guess that is  where it belongs.

Hang out here long enough and you'll forget there's other places beyond off-topic

For what it's worth, I rolled with the Chicken avatar for my first few months here... and surprisingly enough, no one takes you seriously when you are represented as a chicken!

I guess that does sort of make sense, when you think about it.

I like that only one other person I can recall (Urzon) uses the green wizard avatar. It keeps me feeling like I'm fairly distinct and let's me stay lazy enough to not come up with my own avatar.
