I downloaded the extended cut yesterday but at the end I got an error message that the install was corrupt and that I need to reinstall.  When i go back to the downloads section it says i already have the extended cut.  How can i verify that I actually have the extended cut installed?

Restart your PC and re-open the Origin, if it says installed you should have no problem.
