Eccentric Volus Billionare and his army of mercenaries, a weapon from 'beings of light' to protect against synthetic machine devils. Sign me up!

Before the, "lol, don't care" crowd rolls through. Remember, the Leviathan and the Klendagon Rift were 'minor text flavor' at one point as well. It's just as interesting a story, if not more, than those!

Things is, if it was indoctrination while the why charade about it being a weapon *against* those machines? The Reapers don't rely on such deception, they just brute-force brainwash or slaughter.

Could very easily be a weapon developed by a now extinct race, just like Klendagon.

I actually think that the Catalyst's character would be saved from the fires of deus ex machina if they used that explanation...from the first Mass Effect. In fact since its reasons are to protect organics from synthetics, the Reapers motives would no longer seem so contrived.
