and i have bg2 as my all-time favorite game.
maybe it's because it seems so much smaller between loading screens
or that minor quests are more incidentally completed as opposed actively questing.
maybe it's because EA thought a comparison to BG as a marketing scheme was a good idea and set the expectations, if not too high, then along a different path than how DAO turned out.

don't get me wrong: i'm enjoying my 3rd playthrough right now (with several aborted ones as well), but once ME2 comes out, i really doubt i'll fire this game back up.

similar experience for anyone?

As long as talented modders mod the game I will continue to play it.

To me the mistake Bioware made was having refered to DA as a spiritual succesor to the BG series. If they never said that so many of us would not be slightly dissapointed with DA, but this and the rest of my post is just my opinion DA is a awesome game and I do fully intend to continue on with it and support it.

But some things I noticed that l was disapointed with.

DA:O lacks much of what made BG unique, yeah we get some interaction with our companions but to me much it seems forced, the reactions I dont think are as good either I still love the epic Viconia, Jaheira and Aerie catfight. I also remember my BG companions occasionaly saying things that just completely cought me off guard and left me thinking I cant believe they (bioware) got away with this, none of my DA companions has managed to really shock me in this way other then Ohgren who is imo the only one who manages to compete with the flair of a BG companion. Over all BG companions imo just had more to them the DA:O companions.

The BG story line also moved us along in a path but even a single side quest in BG was about as long as the main stories plot in some areas of DA:O. To be fair I knew well in advance that DA would not come close to having the amount of content that the BG series contained but I thought ahh not such a big deal they are after all adding sidequests. These are what I did not expect to fall flat, DA:O sidequests I found to be mostly boring step and fetch it jobs. With most developers this wouldnt be an issue but with DA:O having come from Bioware I expected more in this department maybe not longer but atleast something a bit more interesting.

I also miss the random things like discovering the pantaloons and thus searching all over the world to complete this thing and all of the other random stuff that BG had such as picking up a stone and walking through a certain door and getting owned in a fight that I couldnt hope to win at my level, yeah dying over and over sucks but dying once in awhile can also be fun under the right circumstances.

I will say this though to me BG started off much like DA:O the first installment was great, not epic or legendary but still great in its own right. Lets hope the tradition continues and that DA's sequel becomes just as much of a legendary game that BG2 did.

I can say one thing: If there are no quality (NWN/NWN2 quality) mods for this game, it will die like any single player game. There's only so many times you can replay it.

The newer and/or better will win against the current. Tell me how often you will likely play ME when ME2 is out?

I completed the game once and enjoyed it thoroughly. I've since started several characters but I find myself skipping all the dialogue and eventually running out of steam and abandoning these new characters by level 15 or so. I just don't find that much replayability in RPGs. That's not a judgement on DAO or BW it's just me, as a gamer.

How is that relevant? You'd have a point if DA2 or at least DA expansion was coming very soon, but you're talking about 2 different games. If the modding community isn't as big as NWN's, then this game's days are numbered. Fortunately, it looks like some people are well underway in creating new campaigns.
