It definitely has the potential.  What more could you want from an rpg- great customized classes like shape shifters and stealthy rogues, a huge world to explore with tons of dialogue options and a plethora of unique monsters to fight.

Even if you play 60 hours in one playthrough, there is incentive to play it like 10 more times at least.  You can't go wrong with this.

Though I do have to say Crisis Core made me enjoy the FF7 franchise a lot more than I used to.

i still never finished ff7

my memory data got corrupted

i was at the part right before fighting the ultimate weapon

so i make a new game

and now every time i get in a fight outside middgar my game freezes

I personally would hardly consider Final Fantasy 7 the best RPG ever, and I liked that game. Not to mention comparing a JRPG to a Western RPG is like comparing apples to oranges...



That said, considering Bioware's excellent track record, I have little worry DA:O will be a fantastic experience.

Go back and play FF7... then come back and tell me its the best rpg ever... man that game has problems. It was good, sure, but it has so much acclaim due to the time it came out. Theres so many better games, and so many better FFs!



If i had to rank them, i think ff7 would fall around 3rd best ff... behind 6 and 10 (id say those two are tied, atleast i cannot pick which is better).

To be honest I also think FF7 is overrated it was good but not "Best RPG Ever" good.So I'm pretty sure DAO will go above FF7 for me

FF7 surely did not deserve the title "best RPG" so far. That's something one should consider for Planescape: Torment or the Baldur's Gate Series.

However, a modern RPG is hard to compare to those games.

Well, I hope that DA:O will atleast be the best RPG since BG2.

In my opinion, Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal was the best RPG ever, after that, nothing has given me as much enjoyment as a fully modded Oblivion (vanilla just doesn't cut it). FF7 was good, and had some of the most memorable moments in an RPG, but it was hardly the best. I have to say that the tone and feel of the Witcher is really impressing me. I haven't played all the way through KotOR yet so I don't know where that factors in. Mass Effect was cool but it was a little overrated; the game world felt overly sterile and the story, while good, wasn't as "epic" as people say it was.



To answer your question, I think that what Bioware has done with the tone of the game, emphasis on story and character development, and integration social network and modding community will make ones experience with Dragon Age superior to that of Baldur's Gate. Even if the origin stories aren't quite up to par, there are bound to be mods that will blow us away.

This. As much as I love Bioware's later titles, I have still yet to see one I loved as much I did Baldur's Gate II.

Final Fantasy 7 was sort of a prodigy of its time, but it was Squaresofts first venture into the world of 3D and thus the game overall suffered from their previous work.

I honestly think the first Final Fantasy was the best of them.

I don't think it can fail to be better than FF7 - don't get me wrong, as JRPG's go it's easily my favourite, but it still suffered from a horribly incessant amount of filler combat and tedium - not to mention the inordinately long cut scenes.



My hope is that DA will give me the same level of enjoyment I got playing the BG games, which for my tastes, are the best RPG's I've played.

I think I'll have to test both games before I can decide who is the better. But I think we would need a better definition of what "The best RPG EVER" is to decide.

KotOR was miles better than FF7 so the real question is will DAO be better than KotOR? Time will tell.
