Will Dragon Age Origins be the best rpg ever, even better than final fantasy 7?

Possibly. But they also are unpleasant to the smell and taste for people like me who are highly sensitive to acidic foods.Arttis wrote...

It all comes down to preference in matters like these. While JRPGs and (certain) WRPGs both tend to focus on stories and characters, they vary greatly in the way they're presented enough to the extent that I'd consider them completely different categories.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of JRPGs save for a few Final Fantasies and a couple of others. I'd pick a Bioware-type RPG over a JRPG anyday. My brother is the opposite; he loves JRPGs and enjoys some WRPGs, but he'll pick the JRPG over the WRPG each time. It doesn't make each of our opinions any less valid; we simply have different preferences in what we like most in RPGs.
Incidentally, it's for similar reasons like this that I'm baffled by the PC vs console arguement. Preferring the PC myself, I still enjoy console games and I can list several advantages/disadvantages for each. What does it matter if someone enjoys gaming a certain way over another? Isn't the point to enjoy the game itself, not the method in which it's done?
Bah. I'll stop there before my soapbox breaks under my weight. :innocent:

That being said, as long as it's good I'll be happy. It doesn't have to be the best RPG ever made. Though I hope it is.

But that just arbitrarily sets the origin stories apart from the rest of the game. Yes, we get to play the opening chapter. I can't think of an RPG in which we couldn't do that.Red Viking wrote...
It's hard to say and it ultimately boils down to which school of RPG thought you align yourself with.
However, Dragon Age offers us RPG players a unique opportunity. Instead of being told we grew up in Candlekeep with Imoen or we were part of an elite group called SOLDIER or we single-handedly fought off an invasion of Elysium from batarian slavers and their allies, we get to actually get to play our backgrounds and have those choices define who our character are.
In that regard, I think Dragon Age will be set apart from other RPGs.
By giving us several meaningfully different opening positions from which to choose, DAO is ahead of most RPGs in this respect. We're not saddled with a single starting point and background like we were in BG, or even a single starting point with a flexible background NWN. Whether this is better tha having no background at all (KotOR) remains to be seen.

And I agree; I think DA:O needs to match up to BG2 more than FF7. I'd love DA:O to be the kind of game that BG2 was (and still is; visit the forums!).

This. As much as I love Bioware's later titles, I have still yet to see one I loved as much I did Baldur's Gate II.H8Cr1me wrote...

Though, I know Final Fantasy 7 is the most talked about, but I find it to be okay. My favorite, and this is a time I can pick a favorite, is Final Fantasy Tactics.
Anyway, I have little doubt that Dragon Age will be a great RPG nonetheless.

That's a good point, I honeslty have to say I don't care a whole lot about FF13 coming out, I am kinda done with the series I think.H8Cr1me wrote...
I mean, how many people honestly care about the new FF games coming out?
BUT! FF14 on the other hand I cannot wait to play this, but it is an mmo and not in the same league as the single player ones. In fact since FF11 I have to say I find it hard to play a regular JRPG at all because it lacks the big world and your own character and interaction with actual people.
I guess I am a bigger fan of actual role play now and less being led around by the nose through the story, I can just go get a book or watch a movie for that effect.

I have to agree with you on the first one being the best.Mordaedil wrote...
Final Fantasy 7 was sort of a prodigy of its time, but it was Squaresofts first venture into the world of 3D and thus the game overall suffered from their previous work.
I honestly think the first Final Fantasy was the best of them.
Will DA be the greatest rpg ever? Hopefully!

A much better question is "Would it be better than Chrono Trigger?" Then you might have some debate.

It's kinda weird, they have the same roots in trying to emulate D&D, but as time went on, JRPG decided to adopt better rules-systems more intended for platform and consoles, while WRPG's found that the formulae that they were made of didn't quite work, so they decided "we need to stand out" and then came Baldur's Gate and breathed life into the RPG genre here in the west.caspertjuhh wrote...
it think dragon age is better, because its WRPG and WRPG rule JRPG
