Things I would give up:
Voice acting
Combat >.>
Past Marketing Techniques/PR

Never really cared which way or another about voice acting. I read often enough that when a character 'speaks' I develop something like a mental voice to attach to the words anyway. If that makes any bloody sense at all. I can be given random beeping noises to go along with the dialog (Shining Force II) or made up gibberish (Sims) and that'd still be more than enough for me, I'd just do the equivalent of "Aha! This must imply it is a foreign language and look, the game also helpfully provides subtitles for it!"

Less focus on combat, more on plot plz.

I must say that the latest PR and advertising for the past year or so seems to be doing the exact opposite of what it might have intended, in my case. A lot of the PR for DAII was so clashing with what I saw in the demo and so on made me decide it was safer to just rent the game instead. Still haven't gotten around to buying even ME3 yet either since I found a lot of the PR for that coming across like it was directly insulting the customer.

I just keep thinking of all that money that could have gone into making game instead of all the latest counterproductive marketing methods.

Each character must have an identity, and in my opinion that includes whenever he likes men or women, or isn´t interested.

did you just f*ing imply that people who are attracted to both men and women are somehow lacking in identity?!  did you seriously just go there?  i give you one chance to explain before you are the first person that i've ever officially pulled out my forum murderknife for!

I doubt it, what he/she seems to be impying is that they want a characters sexual orientation to be part of their identity. For example: A dalish elf that is homosexual but cannot be with who they love because their clan needs children. Chances are their character would centre around that conflict.

Unless you were being completely ironic when you posted this reply, I sincerely hope you were.

You want Dragon Age the Visual Novel? =]

As long it had great story and let me explore, I'd buy it.

Let me explain my post. I by no means think that people should have low expectations. I just noticed that many people complained about DA2 (i personally loved it). Bioware cannot make everyone happy. Some people want race options but that might would make a voiced protagonist impossible. Others want better graphics which may mean a shorter story. I would sacrifice a voiced protagonist so we could get more options. Graphics should get better but story is the most important thing. I want combat slower but not as slow as DAO. I made this thread because i was curious if anyone else could felt the same way as me

I think there is a lot of truth to some of these assertions.

Protag VO + cinematic approach combine to impose a lot of other limitations on the game, such as:

~ Race options
~ Equipment customization
~ Talking to companions only when/where scripted instead of anywhere
~ Fewer dialog choices
~ Less latitude in personality customization and role-playing
~ Less player agency in general

and the expense of supplying them also necessitates cutting additional game content that might otherwise be available.

As for combat speed - I've wondered if they could implement a speed slider.  I'd like the combat animation to run slow enough to be able to control all 4 party members in real-time, instead of needing to either: 1) Pause constantly, or 2) Just control 1 character and use tactics for the rest.

I would be willing to sacrifice improved combat if the story and characters were well written. Especially your companions (romancable or not). The story and character interaction are what got me into Dragon Age in the first place. Combat in DAO and DA2 have their own ups and downs, and I have a feeling DA3 will be no different in that regard. So I'm willing to sacrifice that.

But I really want to have memorable companions who are interesting, and given care and importance. As for the romancable companions, I'd like each of them to feel equally important to the story, so no one romance option "feels" like the canon option as opposed to the others, regardless of what is advertised. (Example: Alistair/Morrigan in DAO and Isabela/Anders in DA2).

i was most defininately not being completely ironic.  i was so ticked off that i had to back away from the forums for a couple of days.

i am very, VERY tired of people implying that bisexuality somehow takes away from character development.  modeling characters, even a LOT of characters, after those of us who are capable of caring for a partner no matter what's between their legs does not add up to them being less real.

i don't think people understand how insulting it is when they call it cheap, unrealistic, "hawkesexual", or any other number of the biaphobic insults that have been leveled at the romance options in this game.  it was totally refreshing to me to even SEE bisexuality in DAO, and then wholeheartedly embraced in DA2.  the fact that the romances proper, and not the "type" of romances per se, had conflicts that centered around self-identity IN romance and not the specific sexuality OF romance?  that was honest, realistic, and well-done.  in both games.

that being said, i usually let these things roll off my back and just crack it up to people not getting it.  but he crossed the line with that kind of remark, imho.  did i get a touch angrier and more indignant than i should have?  maybe.  but it just gets old after a while.  i can't ignore everything all the time.

Yah know, I'm bisexual, and while I haven't seen the comments you're talking about (probably for the best that) I do think your reaction was a bit... phosphoric. Especially since he never clarified exactly what he meant. Kudos for fighting the good fight though. ^_^

I'm willing to sacrifice BORING stuff for INTERESTING stuff!!! Oh yeah, I'm a rebel.

I would sacrifice VO on the same flames of Holy Andraste herself if it meant race options and more origin stories.
