Will DA3 be a true sequel or just another game set in the DA world? What would you prefer?

I recently replied to another thread that got me thinking about this very question, and I thought it was worth posting a separate topic about. I am truly curious which of the above is true and hope that Bioware will explicitly state which is to be expected.

If the game is going to be presented as a sequel then choices and characters need to carry throughout the series. To me, DA2 did not feel like a true sequel. I do feel that they did a poor job of this in DA2, but it was handled better in the ME franchise (excepting rachnii queen and collector base fail). I think Ashley/Kaiden and Wrex/Wreav were good examples of handling different choices while continuing with the story. I definitely think it will be more challenging to do well, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

Personally, I would like to see both the Warden and Hawke storylines tied up now that they have begun. I think it would be cool for them to make them both playable in the third game, and you back and forth between the two until they converge at the end for and epic battle with possibly old god baby.

Alternatively, if the game is just presented as another story within the same world, that is a totally different expectation. Then just references to the other games/decisions/characters are necessary. A couple of cameos here would suffice.

It's really how they present the game so that we can form appropriate expectations.

All in all, I really don't care. Not in an apathetic way though, but in a way that signifies that I enjoyed DA:O, but also enjoyed DA2.

If they can bring back some origins, and actually make it feel right and add certain origins that are interesting and play into the game more than just the beginning of it, then I'll be happy with whatever they throw at me.

Regardless though, DA2 has to be one of my most favorite games, more than likely due sheerly to story and that it's fun to play (at least on 360).

I can imagine there would be issues wih importing The Warden into the DAII style graphics of the next game, especially for the elven Wardens. I also don't see why reason to vilify the Old God Baby. It's simply the soul of the Old God reborn in a mortal body.

Well, it isn't going to have the same protagonist according to what they said. So its not a sequel if you don't think DA2 was a sequel to DAO. It will be chronologically after DA2 apparently and they'll probably do something about decision imports. Though I hope its more like the ME2 comic intro than actually trying to import a DAO/DA2 save. Not only do I think that will be problematic in terms of results, I would find it annoying to need to replay DAO to change the conditions in DA3.

You've got a point about old god baby. I just always assumed it would be bad, but you're right that it doesn't have to be. I hadn't considered that.

I wasn't aware that they had made a statement regarding the protagonist. Can you share the link or text where the statement was made if you have it?

I also see what you're saying about the need to replay DA:O to change conditions, but I do believe that some people would take that to be a strength. Some think the amount of replay that games encourage marks greatness. I feel that a compromise would make sense in that you could have a beginning checklist to set certain conditions that occurred in previous games so that you don't have to play the previous games through again (like what you are saying with the ME comic).

It's been mentioned in a couple of places, but you can find one article about it here: http://biowarefans.c...ew-protagonist/

There's no such thing as "sequels" in the DA universe. DA2 made that perfectly clear.

Each Dragon Age game should be a separate story set in a different part of Thedas with different characters and a different plot.

Separate stories. Although it would be cool if they did manage to tie in the storylines from DA:O and DA2 so that all 3 games link together, without being proper sequels. That being said, I don't want to play as Hawke or the Warden again, but I would like to know where they've both disappeared to (I suspect it's something to do with DA3's storyline, because there's bound to be more going on than just a Mage/Templar war and/or trouble between Ferelden and Orlais.)

I don't care about the Warden, but I would love to know what happened to Hawke. DA2 story did have some big flaws and some huge holes but I still think it comes out on top just because DAO didn't have a good story. "Here you are a Warden now go out and beat the big bad dragon that wants to kill everything just because it's evil".
(Being a Warden becomes nothing special when it's get forced upon you right at the beginning and defeating a evil that has no good reason for being evil is just <puke>).

As for DA3, story will be after DA2 with a new protagonist in a new country and a few major choices from DAO and DA2 will be nothing more then mentioned by people you meet.
