Lets say you're some random soldier in the Mass Effect Universe. You've been fighting the Reaper War, and you have ended up in a ragtag squad of every race fighting the Reapers. This includes Geth, post upload, and you have come to recognize that they too are living creatures as you have fought side by side.

Given this scenario, if in the moment of choice Shepard could reach out and ask each being in the galaxy for permission to choose synthesis, would you, individually, give him your permission?

I made a poll, cause you know, I can.

POLL

Edit: Currently at 77% no, 23% yes, 307 to 93, keep those votes coming! It would be interesting to see just how many people we can get to weigh in on this.

Edit 2: DeinonSlayer created a Companion Poll that asks whether you'd be willing to force Synthesis on the galaxy. While this is similar to asking if you chose Synthesis in the game, his third option of "I would choose it for me but not force it on others" gives interesting additional information about people's feelings on this topic.

No the idea is just awful. Also i would honestly assume that he had been indoctrinated and was attempting to trick me into becoming a husk.

For me? Yes, if that's what it took to defeat the Reapers. For everyone? No.

I'd ask to be shot also.. That's a transition I would not like to make.

Of course. To quote Tyrion Lannister, "I like living."

I mean, if it was that or die. If I were just a normal dude and Shepard asked me which to pick I'd say Destroy.

No. I am in favor of natural evolution and synthesis is something forced.

Yes. It allows the most potential for not only yourself, but everyone.

I dislike Synthesis as an ending, but if somebody came up to you and offered you the benefits just for being hit by a green light I doubt many people would say "No", including me.

It's not about permission, none of the choices (including refusal) are.

but any sense of being you might be erased or the thought of everybody has to be the same to have peace it isn't worth it I'd rather die and have free will and be me and not be part machine then to be the same and work with the monsters that have been killing us not jsut 10 minutes ago

IF I was convinced it wasn't some sort of trick, and only affecting me, then possibly although if it had to be a spur of the moment thing with no information then probably not. And this is from someone who despises Synthesis.

Based upon the information given about Synthesis by the Catalyst, no. I would need to know a whole lot more about it before making that decision for myself and my children.

Personalities remain intact. This is proved by the EC.

Everyone isn't the same. Asari are still different from Humans. Humans are still different from Geth. Just now organics are able to experience synthetic traits (altering code, uploading), and synthetics can experience organics (emotions, impules).

Free will remains. There will likely still be conflict, but hopefully it's just arguments and not wars.

The Reapers don't deserve death. They were forced to harvest by the Catalyst. I'm willing to kill the Catalyst, but not the Reapers.

Wrong everyone has green eyes now everyone is part machine or has computers inside their minds their bodies for the most part may look different but they have essentially became all the same hence why everyone is so peaceful it is not worth it

I'd take it, yes. As a personal choice the opportunity to explore a new form of existence (Which may or may not be annihilation) against total annihilation? I'd take it, albeit with some hesitation.

On that note, I don't feel the ending's are as inherently evil as a lot of people think. If a cure was created for cancer that would alter the base of DNA to make it possible... Would it be evil to disperse that through the atmosphere/weather system so everyone on earth was made to be effected? We've seen that synthesis isn't evil, we evolve naturally as a part of our lives, so why is the fact that someone could make the choice to push us forward so evil?

To add; I don't feel the endings were particularly good, I feel they were put together in a poor manner more befitting of the fantasy genre then science fiction. Like, it belonged more in Warhammer 40k, or Shadowrun then Mass Effect. It all feels very... out of place.
