Thane was my third favourite squadmate ever.
I can understand why people are upset. There was a fair amount of information in ME2 which suggested a cure may be possible.
When you first speak to him, Thane appears to be at peace with his impending death in ME2 as he has nothing to live for. Yet by the end of the game he has both his son and a potential romance with Shepard. By the time he reaches the suicide mission he appears to be far more conflicted about his death.
Yet in Mass Effect 3, he once again seems completely at peace with the idea. It didn't fit the character development we saw in Mass Effect 2.
It wasn't his inevitable death which bothered me in Mass Effect 3, its that he didn't seem to care despite the fact he had so much to live for. It didn't fit the character and that bothered me.

Yet you have people defending this cop out! It would have been like meeting wrex on tuchunka in ME2 and finding out he's working with the collectors because they'll help make a cure for the krogan. After Virmire you'd THINK that scene between him and shepard would have been significant . You'd THINK it would play a role in his character development later. You'd THINK he learned that helping the enemy was NOT the right way to save his people. But nope, ME2 rolls around and we find out wrex just "changed his mind". That moment on the beach? Didn't matter! Lets face it it was always in wrex's nature to betray you if it meant helping his people at the expense of others!

Yeah I don't get why people won't see the change in his character. It's just so obvious.

I actually wonder how the romanced Thane must have felt after Shepard was taken away from him, without means to get any kind of message to her. He must have become desperate in his efforts to live long enough to have a chance to see Shepard again. Any kinds of lung transplants, experimental treatments from Mordin, anything to prolong his life.

What? People behaving in a realistic manner? What kind of a game do you think this is??

I actually though Thane's scenes were some of the better ones and that his story in ME3 was pretty good when compared to some other characters. I still think that, but you've at least got me thinking

I don't see what's wrong with Kirahee and Thane being alive to beat Kai Leng and Thane survives. You don't have to cure him, just fix the character development issues and allow his survival of Kai Leng.
The following scenes of Romance/Friendship with be beautiful.
I see no issue with allowing the option for his survival. If you want to kill him and believe he should die, do so in your playthrough.
Did I ever mention this is the first time an LI can die on you.

It's good compared to Morinth
But I will have to respectfully disagree on Thane's scenes being some of the better ones. His single conversation in the hospital consists of talking about his illness/death. His fight scene with Kai Leng is farcical, and the deathbed scene, while great on Thane's part (and with most broSheps) is utterly emotionless on Shepard's part.

It's kind of ironic, my first and only one femshep playthrough ended with Thane as LI. And now in the third game he dies. Eh, shame... Of course, save him from terminal illness would be a fanservice (but he mentions some possible medication in ME2). But I don't see anything wrong with a well-written fanservice. Mass Effect full of fanservice.
Waste of great potential, really. He was great character per se and most interesting among all male LI.

Oh there's LOTS of irony in the way Thane was treated!
