@CastonFolarus -- Really nice dialogue you came up with there. You have a very good feel for Jacob's writing. Thanks for sharing
As a Thane fan, I can feel for the Jacob fans out there.
Thank you, it took me a little bit, but I hoped to have his and Shepard's voices come through in the dialogue. Part of what bothers me, as far as Jacob's *puts on turian councilor costume* 'romance', is that it would have been so EASY to make it work in ME3. The dialogue and meetup I typed could have been done so easily, and far better, by a Bioware writer. I've been a fan of their work for a while, and they know how to do it. But for some reason, they decided to make Jacob Taylor's romance end in the worst possible way, with as little explaination or exposition, as well as a lack of regard for him as a character, or any respect whatsoever to his fanbase, small though it may be.
I feel that Bioware made a genuine mistake with Thane's romance. In my opinion, making his death preventable would in no way make his death, should it occur, less meaningful. No more than the chance to prevent Miranda's anyway. Also, as one of the letters one of you Thanemancers sent to Bioware said, the heroic Warden in DA: Origins who lives to see the Fifth Blight end in no way infringes on the tragic heroism of a Warden who sacrifices his/herself to defeat the Archdemon. They are simply different ways of playing out the same story, depending on your choices, which is one of Mass Effect's driving themes as a franchise. They made that judgement call trying to make Mass Effect 3 a better game. I think it was incorrect, but I at least respect their decision and where it was coming from.
But as far as Jacob's 'romance' is concerned? I can't come up with any fathomable reason why any fanbase deserved such unnesesary treatment. Nothing in ME2 even hinted at this kind of outcome for Jacob's romance, and it would have been such an easy thing to prevent. And my mind still boggles with what Bioware was trying to accomplish with their treatment of his romance. Royally ****** off a fanbase in a BAD way? Congrats, mission accomplished. Thane's romance, for all it's flaws in ME3, is still worth playing through, for me. But Jacob's feels better if you kill him off during the suicide mission. And how is THAT supposed to make Mass Effect 3 a better game?
Between Bioware's treatment of the Jacob and Thane romances, along with providing a frustrating tease of a squadmate in James Vega, I can't help but take all of Bioware's words about catering to their female fanbase with a grain of salt. I mean, you even went out and said that Vega was made to appeal to your female fanbase. Why even bother to do that if you just going to make him a tease? Sure, you provided a FemShep coverart, and even had a fan contest to determine that. All well and good, I guess. But you also screw up two FemShep romances and tease another?
