Morning everyone!

We had some great activity on the blog this week for our sexism and gender disparities in gaming week.

If you haven't checked it out already, please do so :)

Have a great weekend!

I see that the thread has been especially quiet over the weekend!

Well, just to let everyone know, the Romance DLC team is taking the week off from the blog, to relax a bit over the Thanksgiving holiday. We'll be back to work as normal next week, though, and there will still be daily postings on the blog, but no new content in the articles posted.

And, with the week off, I can finally make some updates to this thread that I've been meaning to do now, for a few weeks, blarg!

Have a great holiday week to all our supporters in the US :)

I hope everyone in the US is having a great Thanksgiving holiday.

I've taken a bit of my vacation time to finally get this thread updated.  Things around here have gotten a bit stagnant, especially in the past few weeks, which is partly my fault.  Due to real life obligations, I haven't been around as much as I normally am.  We've also been pretty busy over at the blog. I'm sure midterms, fall break, and the impending holidays haven't helped either :]

At any rate, I've tidied up the thread a good bit, so hopefully that will help get folks motivated to come back in and keep sharing great thoughts and ideas on how to improve the romances in ME3.  Here's a snapshot of what folks have been talking about since I last updated the OP a couple of months ago:

  • Ashley's armor and appearance
  • Equal treatment for FemShep and ME2 LIs
  • Kaidan's romance with Male Shep
  • Dates and marriage
  • Sam and Steve
  • Loyalty missions and love triangles
  • ME2 LIs including Miranda and Thane
  • Importance of romantic character arcs to the story as a whole
  • General support of Romance DLC
Now is an important time to keep showing your support.  Unless I am mistaken, BioWare has stated that all DLC  will either be in the works or finished by the end of Q1 2013.  This means there is relatively little time left for us to have an impact on what DLC  will be released.

So, keep popping into this thread and commenting.  Just as importantly, remind people in your BSN groups that we are still here.  Closure of the Character/Romance forums has hurt the exposure of this thread quite a bit, so we need to work a bit harder against that.  Pop into the blog and throw out a comment or 2 over there.  If you have a bit more time and the inclination, write up a Character Spotlight for your favorite LI, or shoot us a screenshot or 5 for Screenshot Thursday.  Follow us on Twitter and retweet.  Share links to the blog or our thread here onyour favoirite sites.

The important thing is that we keep the dialogue going, so BioWare knows that we haven't lost interest. In the meantime, I'll be posting here and on the blog, and try to keep this thread bumped as often as I can :]

Thanks!

BTW -- this thread hit over 50K views...nice!

If they are really working on some character-focused DLC, well... If it will not contain improvements for characters I like, I will be like "Mass Effect who?"

While I don't think there will be any romance DLC, I think Bioware might be pleasantly surprised how well it would go over if they did make it. I'd probably buy it, myself. But I think it would just need one date-turned-mission, where you get to do the mission with just your LI. Plus bonuses like alternate appearance and cuddling etc. Maybe some extra dialogue options.

And I think the reason I really like this idea is, after how disappointed I was in the ending, it would be nice to go back to the game and be able to escape all the grimdark of the main storyline for an hour or two (or longer, even--that would be great) in favor of something more light-hearted. In other words, I'd like to see something positive back in the game. Too much negativity has been put into it already. I can't be the only one who feels that way.

@garrusfan1 -- Nice to see you are still around :)

@Rasmus -- Ah, if only I knew the answer to your question! Let's hope for much more SP content, preferably some involving the ME2 squad.

@Saito -- You read my mind :)

@Brass_Buckles -- Nice to have you here. And, no, you certainly aren't the only one that feels that way. Many people support the concept of a happier ending and felt that ME3 lacked the...hope...that ME1 and ME2 contained. At any rate, thanks for tossing in your $.02, and feel free to check out the blog if you haven't been over there yet.

From reading through teh survey comments, I  think Kaidanmancers probably wanted to have an in-game marriage to the story the most.  Akin to the blue babies that the Liara-mancers want, lol.

I have always stated that ME3 needs to correct 6 things in order to make it worthy for replay and to hit the 1 place: one of them is LI content.

But to get a satisfactory LI content espacially for ME2 LI;s it needs to be a big DLC or at least try in the future DLC put more effort in bringing LI moments in there.

An improvement to the ME2 squad story and romance content would cetainly be appreciated by a ton of fans out there.

With that said, Coldi has been under the weather over the Thanksgiving holiday, so the Monday Musing will be returning next week. However, we do have a bit of a treat for Samara fans that I'll be posting in just a bit :)

Certain characters could do with improvements, regardless of whether they were taken as a romantic interest. I wouldn't like to buy the content and find that I need to play the game half a dozen times to see all that I had bought. I like 'romanced' dialogue, but I like friend dialogue just as much.

Other suggestions, I'm not so keen on. Thane's death is fine by me; I don't want everything to be fixable.

I agree that some of the Mass Effect 2 characters could use some additional content. If alive they could be on the Normandy for Priority: Cerberus Headquarters? Miranda and Jacob as Cerberus tactical advisors and the some others for personal reasons to form a distraction for Shepard's squad.

@Cantable--

I understand your point regarding friend vs romantic dialogue. It makes sense in a certain way.

To offer another perspective, however, one of the major points players made in the survey was the lack of differentiation between these 2 types of dialogue when it came to the LIs. Players want to feel that their Shepard has a special "connection" to that specific character in the game they are involved with. Having different and unique dialogue adds to the immersion -- which is another point that many players made (lack of immersion in the game). Shepard and his/her LI should have different dialogue if they are in a romantic relationship. It makes sense. They wouldn't choose the same words and treat each other in the same manner if they were only friends.

Personally, I support the addition of strong, story-driven content with all LIs (especially ME2 LIs) that should be available to romancers and non-romancers alike. Not to mention more content for non-LIs (Reegar, Grunt, etc). I do feel that the interactions between Shepard and his/her LI should be different, though, and only experienced upon entering the romance.

Thane's death is a hotly contested issue. Players offered a variety of suggestions for how to deal with his character, and most of them involved some type of sacrifice in another area of the game. In other words, most players who want the option to have him play a larger role in the game, don't expect to get something for nothing. They recognize that it could be an issue akin to Wrex/Eve/Mordin or Legion/Tali, where more time with Thane means losing something else. Almost in no cases did players think that a "cure" should be mandated into the game -- an option for those who want to explore it, but a mandate, no. Many suggested that an extension of Thane's life could be contingent upon romance status, loyalty status, EMS rating, or specific plot choices made in the game, etc. These folks feel it is possible to work this into the story in a consistent and cohesive manner.

Then, of course, there is the issue of Jacob, which is another ball of wax, lol.

We have yet to receive any submissions for a Character Spotlight for Ashley, so if we recieve any, then we'll certainly post one!

We've also had a pretty constant stream of spotlights since the blog started, but as of now, we don't have anything set up for next week.

For those of you that would like to write about your favorite LI, now would be a good time :)

Here's hoping we can get something like this made. DLC that's small, unobtrusive, minor additional gameplay content that doesn't change the game creators' artistic vision. Basically, Hearthfire, but with less carpentry and more flirtin' 'n' mackin'.

Hell yes. Especially after being loyal to the guy ever since ME1 (maybe the Ashmancers feels the same too? Idk) though I doubt BW would implement this in game (heck, just having him propose to my Shep would make me flip in utter happiness)
But as Tali-vas-normandy said it, exchanging dog tags would be pretty sweet. Love this idea very much.

Morning folks. Quote of the Week is up, and Ash is the lucky winner, today.

Now that Omega is out, I think I can hear the howls of disappointment that Aria was not made romanceable, lol.
