Say if The Crucible (since it's a giant battery and Starbrat can turn it off) wasn't capable of destroying or controlling. You're stuck with Synthesis or Refuse. Those are the only choices Starbrat will allow you to make.

Which would you pick and why?

Me? Refuse. Yeah everyone dies horribly but at least they die as themselves. And there's the chance that the next cycle will be able to defeat the Reapers without needing the Crucible.

Poll

But in the refuse ending the people in the next cycle would use the crucible anyway. Meaning that with your scenario synthesis would eventually happen. So refusal is pointless.

We don't know what they used. They just to listen to the warnings instead of air quoting them away and found a way to beat the Reapers. Oh and also manage to stop the suppposed synthetic organic war that was "inevitable".

You're the ones headcannoning synthesis into how they did it.

Did you even read the first post? The OP is the one that said synthesis or refusal, so if you do that scenario then the next cycle only has synthesis or refuse as well.

Or they could use Liara's capsules to prepare and defeat the Reapers conventionally.

But yes if the Crucible's used only Synthesis or Refuse are options. Starbrat (in this scenario) will not allow anything else.

Rape me! Rape me my friend! Synthesis FTW!

We get to use the reapers for labor, we get their collective knowledge, and everyone gets upgrades. What's not to like?

Refuse.

I'd say why, but I think I've already taken that horse into the MMA ring enough already.

It's not just your death you're choosing though - refusal is choosing the death, huskification, indoctrination, and becoming Reapers for trillions of people. If forcing synthesis is tyranny, how is forcing people through that not tyranny?

By not choosing I am not forcing anything on anyone.  I am leaving "people" to fight conventionally.  Furthermore, there is nothing stopping the next person going up the space elevator and choosing genetic rape, I personally however want no part of it.

I'm sorry, but that's just nonsense. You are making a concious choice about the fate of trillions and are not consulting them in it whatsoever - saying your choice isn't forcing something on people is just denying responsibility for the rather obvious consequences of your choice.

By refusing I am leaving people to fight conventionally. My conscious choice is to not force my will on their bodies. All living and organic beings did not give me permission to alter their DNA at base level and incorporate them into the Reapers.

If you are boiling it down the base level, suggesting that we ignore the fact that a war is already raging, ignore that reapers were previously destroyed by conventional means, ignore that at that point in the game there is no way to know the outcome and suggesting that there are only 2 absolute, unmutable and irrefutable outcomes - Rape (Synthesis) or Allow to be Killed (refuse), then I still choose Allow to be Killed (refuse) in the hope that future generations (or species) will take what was learnt and overthrow such horrible tyranny.

Refuse!

Synthesis is what the Reapers want, so to hell with that choice. Plus, it's impossible.

I would choose refuse ending because, I reject the thought of losing my being that I currently am. Being imperfect and having free thought is part of what makes being human wonderful. Who's to say we would be like that had we all become cyborgs. There would be no more independent thought, free will, or anything that makes life worth living. Not to mention the ability to die makes life worth living.

I would fight and die before I gave in to something like Synthesis. I am a strong believer in Bushido and I will live by the sword and die by the sword or die of old age, the way of the warrior is a more honorable way to live. Knowing that I still fought until the end even though it was futile. I have more respect for people that make that kind of choice.

Synthesis, I wouldn't like it and not everyone else would either but I'd rather mutate everyone then doom everyone to extinction

You also caused every other sentient being in your galaxy to be killed, that seems less honorable then swallowing your pride.

I pick refuse. At least I get to die an honest man without being corrupted by the Catalyst. The same can be said of my fellows.

Synthesis.

Not being killed by the Reapers would be nice.

Refuse. There are not enough words in the english language to describe how much I hate the very idea of synthesis.

Synthesis.

Find it interesting how many people reject synthesis purely because it's what the Catalyst wants. It's still the better option, between the two.

Refuse. Would rather be dead than forced into a cookie cutter existence. Plus, the little gift for those to follow left by Liiara would most likely see the Yahg blow the holy crap out of the citadel the moment they found it.

Synthesis all the way. It's funny that people claim it's what the Catalyst "wants". I believe he simply considers it the best option, but that's just me. I know that people compare it to Saren but given that he was indoctrinated, I can't help but think he was being mislead by Sovereign.

Die as I am or become a tool of the reapers? Hard choice.
