Absolutely not. It irritated me more than before in fact, because they could have shown more than that, but left us with more speculation yet again (despite the fanbase obviously wanting more closure with their Shepard's status at the end of Destroy.)
I can't emphasize enough how sick I am of having to speculate about major plot points and character actions.
That said, I'm just glad they didn't remove it entirely. A tiny bit of me was totally expecting that to happen. o/
This. I really don't understand how this EC exceeded so many people's expectations. I didn't have high hopes for the EC and I got what I expected.. Does the EC make the ending better? Sure. The same slides were used for the three main endings. The same stuff happens no matter what you choose. Now if future dlc can affect the refuse ending, I might change my tune.

Yeah, the cliffhanger is infuriating. Had there been a sequel or post-ending DLC coming I would have been ok with it.
But knowing that this is all we're ever gonna get is damn frustrating to say the least

umm are you speculating that he plummeted to earth like meteorite? Great imagination.. but if we are to assume he is still alive he is probably still on the citadel and some life-support systems still remain intact.. something less prepostrous, but you get a gold star for trying!aryon69 wrote...

This. So we are to believe with a high ems that Shep can survive re-entry from space after the explosion on the citadel?
Sure was a lot of rock for it to be citadel rubble. However you make a good point we don't know where that breath takes place and I assumed it was London.

Interesting idea. I'll have to think for a bit on that one, I'm not quite sure how I'd feel. I was going to add "followed by a 'Shepard?!' from the LI's voice but that would be far too cheesy (and I want a reunion scene).DefeatTheSerum wrote...
I think the only thing that would've made it better outside of a full fledged reunion would be if one or two seconds after he/she takes a breath and the screen goes black Admiral Hackett or someone else would say something like "We've found him." Then credits.

YES!!!
Clarity, screw hope and speculation and headcanon. If Shepard's alive, they should say it! Speak plain!

You cause a huge mess by wanting everybody to speculate, so then when you clean it up you decide to just do the same thing all over again?
If Shepard lives, tell me so, and let me celebrate that victory. If Shepard dies, let me mourn. Simply tossing this "Or is he!" nonsense in my face at the last moment is not closure.

how can you assume he is anything but alive after the breath scene? would there be a point in adding that if it were meant to show anything else? you have all of this buildup assuming that Shepard has died, and alas, he is alive. It's what you see in nearly every action movie.. There is no other way to interpret that scene. They left it alone because it was obvious and there was no need to clarify.devSin wrote...
No, I think it's just as pointless and cheap as it was originally.

I think some people literally need BW to include text that says "Shepard is alive" to understand.

Seriously though, I'm so tired of still having to headcanon things after I've seen even an extended cut of an ending. It's like I paid for a fanfic without an ending.
He woke up in a pool of blood and continues to bleed heavily.
He experienced a massive explosion near him.
He was partly buried in rubble.
And you think he should not even be alive?
Make that two explosions, actually.

Not hard if you expected the EC to be a total failure.

Agree. I don't think more then this was really needed.
Or they could have used to voice of your LI.

That got me into thinking... maybe the breath scene really happened in ME1 and not at the end of ME3. The presentation just wasn't in chronological order.xCaptainAmazing wrote...
To me, it's just a perfect revisiting of Shepard being trapped under the rubble like in ME1. I absolutely eat stuff like this up completely, and it's one of the main reasons I thoroughly enjoy the new EC ending for destroy. It gave a bit of a "full circle" sense to it which I thought was great. A lot of people are still disappointed that it wasn't elaborated on, but it seems just so much better now.
I can't see how Shep could have survived the explosion after shooting the tube. Unless we're talking about cartoon explosions where the one caught in the explosion just becomes covered in dust or ash, but otherwise still intact and unharmed.

Oh but you see, they did clarify how Shepard could survive the initial explotion. Compare the new clip to the old. In the new clip he turns his face way from the explosion.
Yepp, that'll sure do it. I'll remember that the next time i get torched by a flamethrower.
"just turn my face away from the flames. And it won't matter if they engulf me".
