You are not allowed to invest in Pull or Throw. You must take a Shotgun as the primary weapon. And you need to use Shockwave as much as possible

And the plus, if you get tired of rushing or want to vary it up for a mission or two, you can swap out his weapon for an assault rifle or sniper rifle if you want.

Sentinel with defense matrix specced so you get 100% shields back when you release it and with the combine DR, you are tanky enough to use a claymore/wraith/any weapon really. You or your team mates can prime a target for a biotic explosion, then you run in and set it off with throw. Then pick off the scattered remaining enemies. Or Overload a something as you run up to it to stun/remove shields and finish it off close range with your weapon of choice (preferably a shotgun).

This sounds interesting. Do tech armor and defense matrix stack?

Yes, sorry I wasn't clear, by combined DR I meant stacked Damage Resistance

Then take a Claymore and Talon.
Enjoy CQCing the hell out of everything.

Yes, I know most of these have been mentioned above. But with me, you get them all in one neat little post (even if they're not my ideas).
Adept + Barrier + Shotgun : Use the close ranged shockwave and shotgun to use this build to maximum potential.
Engineer + Defence Matrix + Shotgun: Use both your combat drone and sentry turret to distract the enemies while you go on the offensive.
Sentinel + tech armour + defence matrix/barrier + shotgun: Perhaps even better than the charge nova combo in terms of survivability.
Infiltrator: Tactical cloak + defence matrix/fortification/energy drain + shotgun. This combination will keep you alive and make you very effective as a close quarters comnatant. Even without the bonus power, you'll still be king. Great since you get an amazing damage bonus.
Soldier: Like the Sentinel, any strategy will work well with a soldier. Grab fortification and grab a shotgun. You're king even without the adrenaline rush (though having adrenaline rush activated is strongly advised).
Both incendiary ammo and disruptor ammo work well. I wouldn't bother with cryo, but that's just me.

What difficulty are we talking here? I've been wearing my bum on my head on Silver Reaper runs with my Krogan Sentinel. Then again most of my squad is toasted by then as well....
Single Player.
No difficulty has been specified. But I'd say the above suggestions through out this thread work well on insanity.

I started a Defense Matrix Sent, having a blast so far. Thanks for the responses everyone.
Cool, besides, I got the idea from Kronner, albeit modified to use most of the powers and one weapon instead of five weapons and using only BEs. Remember, If you carry one weapon, you still can go for max dr on tech armor and still have decent cooldowns using the inferno armor.

Is there any difficulty except Insanity?
Narrative difficulty. Now does anyone play that one?

Sentinel. No need for Cloak when you are indestructible.
Sure, but Vanguard are pretty much a tank class too though. Shotgun Infiltrators are up close specialist, but in a different way.
They're like Shotgun Ninjas, instead of Shotgun Tanks. Though Vanguards are really fast moving tanks.
