I used to have 3DS set up so that when nwmax loaded a model it loaded the textures from my external texture library at the same time (without having to have them in the same directory as the model). I have the texlib setup in nwmax, but for some reason the textures aren't loading. Anyone got any ideas or maybe post a quick how-to on how to set this up? I can't recall how to do it.

Customize -> Configure User Paths -> Extrnal Files tab -> Add button, select your texture library directory, make sure Add Subpaths is checked if you have subpaths -> Use Path button -> OK button.
Close and restart 3DSMax.

Tried this on 3ds max 2012 - still no textures unless I copy them to the same folder.
Has anyone tried using NWMax with 3ds max 2012?

I had issues at first with NWMax and 3dsMax 2012. This is under Windows 7, and I think that was more the issue. Make absolutely sure to run 3dsMax as Administrator if you are using Windows 7.

The above works with the following versions:
3DSMax6
3DSMax7
3DSMax8
Does not work with the following versions:
3DSMax9
3DSMax2010
and apparently 3DSMax2012 (I don't have this version to test personally)
Using Windows XP SP3 32-bit.
Not sure if anyone can explain why or how to make it work.

The problem is with 3dsmax.ini file path. Prior to v.9 3dsmax stored this file in its main folder. Since v.9 it's now in the user profile (%USERPROFILE%\\AppData\\Local\\Autodesk\\3dsMax\\2012 - 32bit\\enu on Windows 7). To make it work, you can copy 3dsmax.ini to the main 3dsmax folder.
In Maxscript, you can get the path to this dir by calling getDir #maxData. I'm not sure this function works on earlier versions, though.

Thank you Virusman, that fixed the issue.
On Windows XP the location will look something like this:
%USERPROFILE%/Local Settings/Application Data/Autodesk/3dsmax/9 - 32bit/enu

An updated version, if anyone needs it:
http://data.virusman...v2.04.11-hf.rar
Replace scripts/nwmax_plus/nwmax.ms with the file from this package.

So how do I set this up now on Max 2011? I followed the instructions in MDA's first post but still no textures load. Using NWMax Plus v3.10.14b with Win 7 Home.

Same here! I didn't even know you could load textures from a separate library! I always worked with white objects! -________-

@Master Jax -- What version of 3DSMax and Windows are you using?
I believe we have found a bug, or perhaps there is a mysterious setting somewhere that we are missing.
This works fine with every version of 3DSMax I have running under Windows XP. I just installed 3DSMax 2010 on my Windows 8 machine and ran into this issue. I'll go out on a limb and say this probably happens on Vista machines as well.
Something else for me to look into when I get some extra time.

I am actually using the same rig as Pstemarie, only with Ultimate instead of Home version, which is why I posted right after him. I was just hoping you could explain the process for him and I would try the same. 0___0

Fixed the issue on my 3DSMax 2010/Windows 8 set up. Now I need to test it out on my XP versions to make sure it still works there as well.

Okay, texture loading solved. It now works with 3DSMax5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 2010 running under Windows XP. I've only tested it with 3DSMax2010 running under Windows 8, but I feel confident this will work with other versions as well.

Well... I'll assume you're asking how to get the download. Click the filename at the top of the page that the link in my previous post leads to.
Or... Perhaps you need to know how to use the file once you've downloaded it. Unzip the file, copy the "Scripts" directory to your 3DSMax install directory.
Or... Maybe you're wondering how to use the external file directories. You still need to configure your external file directories. Follow the instructions I posted near the top of this page and you should be golden.
And... If I'm wrong on all counts, please feel free to expand upon your question and I'll do my best to help you.
