It does not help that you are forced into giving her what she wants or she leaves, which means that there is no real motivation to train, equip, or use because she will just go away in the end or force you to to make a decision that may be contrary to how you RP your PC.
?? How much work does it take to "train" Morrigan or any party member, since they level with you? Her default equipment is good enough to get her through the game, subbing in the better outfit you get from her personal quest.
As for being a worse mage than Wynne, no way no how. I know that I did not use Morrigan much on my first couple playthroughs but after playing a mage myself, I appreciate her setup more. IMO she is the more powerful mage even if you don't use her shapeshifting abilities (which I usually don't). The healer stuff is easy enough to get after level 7 and she is much more set up to be a feast of destruction than Wynne.
Like Zevran, character-wise she grew on me. My tendency is to play noble characters, so at first I was put off by her. However, her nagging disapproval is not so evident later in the game. In Redcliffe, I did send her away and subbed in Dog because I was tired of the frowny faces for every single quest- I wouldn't do anything in Redcliffe if it were up to Morrigan. Not necessarily more annoying than Wynne's preachiness, though, depending on your POV, and I find Sten much more prickly. The only other time my noble characters have a problem with her is in the alienage when she wants you to slaughter the elven captives. I wish I had an option then, like you do with the Anvil of the Void, to suggest that she would be welcome to take her place in line for the blood sacrifice if that's how she feels about it.
