Pretty much this.

BioWare faced an uproar that had reached crisis level, as I believe this was around the time Amazon began offering full refunds. They hadn't decided how best to approach the situation and hoped that statement would calm people down for a little while.

Here's the tweet:
https://twitter.com/...942797880541185

Twitter says it was posted on March 8th, not 9th. That's two days after the game was released. How many people beat the game in two days? I'm sure many people on this forum did, but most people who played the game didn't. Personally, I spent about a week or so on it, and I had been on spring break at the time--still only took me about 30-35 hours, so maybe I could've beaten it in two days if I played non-stop, but I didn't.

I know people had been giving the devs crap even before the game was released, because Something Awful leaked some of the details, but the ending poopstorm had to have taken at least a week to hit full force. Not to mention that Mike Gamble isn't the only one who has said this. The official Mass Effect twitter paraphrased his tweet a little bit here:
http://twitter.com/m...686320568926209

And Patrick Weekes said at PAX that the devs have always had big plans for Mass Effect 3, as if the game hadn't already been released and played by millions of people. Surely they aren't just talking about some run-of-the-mill DLC.

If they had any actual plans, they would have simply revealed them to stop the ****storm dead in its tracks. The fact that they didn't and instead went into silent mode suggests it was nothing more than damage control.

I've stopped listening to what Gamble says a while ago, it's led to nothing but disappointment lately.

Looking forward to extra stuff. I am quite pleased with the EC, and am ready to pay for some new content.

A while back Mike Gamble tweeted:

"Hardest. Day. Ever. Seriously, if you people knew all the stuff we are planning…you’d, we’ll – hold onto your copy of [Mass Effect 3] forever."

Tweeted on the: 3/9/2012

What do you think - mindless PR talk - or a clue...?

when you sift through all the bullsh*t, its easy to see the real message: "PLEASE DON'T TRADE ME3 IN! PLEASE!"

You're reading too much on a March tweet.

Day of release damage control so that the "returned game to store for refund" numbers wouldn't be so bad.

Well they didn't to seem to know the story they were trying to write, so this is plausible.

They said the EC wouldn't please everyone. How'd they go from "you'll hold onto your copy of ME3 forever" to "some of you might not like it"?

That tweet really sounded like indoctrination theory was true or something mindblowing. A few cinematics and extra dialogue to the catalyst isn't exactly an 'if you knew...' result.

Sounds like they anticipated the response. At least some at BW did.
