Is anybody else opposed to the ME movie?

Now I can't say I wouldn't be interested in a movie based on ME1 but I worry that the movie's canon will take precedence over the player's personal canon.
Say that they have a male paragon Shepard, who saves Ashley, romances Liara, kills Wrex and saves the council. Not everyone who is a fan of the game is going to like that. Now you could argue that they shouldn't be too worried about what the fans think because the fans already like ME, and that's true. But they need to be careful to not alienate their present fanbase while trying to get new people into the series through this movie.

Yet like other people have said is that video game movies are mainly for movie goers not the video game fans. It seems you missed the negatively from some of the video game fans had with the Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Prince of Persia while those are the most successful ones. Btw there will always be a small group of people complaining, which you can't doing anything to prevent.Peregrin25 wrote...
I am saying a ME movie would flop due to the current state of things and feelings fans have toward BioWare at the moment. That is my only logic behind my statment which I probably should have stated in my other post, but yeah I see what you mean. And do't get me started on UWE Boll lol. But yeah, if and I meana big if BioWare wanted to eventually release and have a ME movie made, it should be later in the future when people aren't so hatefull and judgmental toward BioWare. Right now or even in a year or so would still be bad. It would only bite them in the ass.
Actually there are two ME movies being worked, one is an Anime movie coming out later this year and a live action Hollywood movie thats curently in production. The plot is actually simple in ME like how ME1 was to stop Saren, which was the main focus.Peregrin25 wrote...
If they do make a movie, it should be part of the same timeline just not a direct recreation of a game, novel or comic already made. It should be a story to fill in a specific area in the plot that has been hinted at and not a lot of detail on so we can see something fresh.
Yet you forget that Bioware wouldn't be involved other then giving some input on the project and EA wouldn't be footing a bill either. Hopefully you know that most video game movies are being produced by the same company as the games unless if you're Capcom with RE: Degeneration, Square Enix with FF7 : AC, or Ubisoft with AC shorts/Ghost Recon : FS movie.Peregrin25 wrote...
I seriously doubt BioWare would risk a possible flop at the current time anyway. It would do more harm than good.

It seems like you're getting disappointed especially when the default Shepard in most of the books is actuallya Male Shepard. Btw its still up to the script writers what will happen and its not their fault on making an 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hour movie based on a 20 to 40 hour RPG. It seems like you're asking way too much and makes you overreaching.JayPlays wrote...

And romances Liara...It's already been confirmed that it will star BroShep. And in regards to Liara, as much as we all love her (most of us), i've got a feeling that the producers will give presidence to the Virmire survivor (probably Ash). There are a few reasons why, saving her on Virmire would leave her with a greater motivation to fall in love with Shepard, it may also show that Shepard cares a lot about her; and, Liaras relationship with Shepard caused some controversy in countries like Singapore the US. For those reasons I think in a movie, it would allow better plot development to have Shepard romance Ash :L
Actually both of the Street Fighter movies did fairly well while they weren't no Titanic with their box office numbers. Btw the Street Fighter movies aren't that bad for the small amount of story that the Street Fighter games have just like most Fighting games.JayPlays wrote...

I wouldn't say "opposed", but I always have doubts about films based on games, and vice versa - I can't readily think of ANY that have done justice to what they're based on... even if they do have a "big name" cast.
That said, I always love a good sci-fi, so....

I would say "Doom" movie was a successful attempt. Just as dumb as the original game.

However if it bring Bioware more revenue & therefore more ME games, I am all for it.

I actually watch Doom at the cinema, & its half decent. I watched every RE movie as well. Big fan of Milla.
I think Tomb Raider movies are also quite nice.

Your reasons are remarkably stupid. :/
This. What about all the people who haven't played Mass Effect or don't play video games full stop? A movie won't be profitable if just the ME fanbase saw it.
And the whole 'video game movies suck' arguement is also invalid. You see the pitfall that most movie makers fell into is this; big sales of a video game doesn't make a good movie, they are 'good' for different reasons. How many movies have been made from games with zero plot? A lot! This is where ME is different and could, and I stress that's a could not a will, stand above it's forebearers in video game adaptations is that ME1 had a plot.

however, movies based on games doint usually have a good track record,RE for example is dire, and jovovich is awful. doom i liked, but mass effect?
games based on movies however fare better, the two games based on Riddick are very good.
for me though a Mass Effect movie will work if the main character isnt shepard.
(sheploo making a visual only asppearance cameo scene as Shepard would be acceptable)

It made almost $100 million on a $35 million budget, so technically it´s considered a blockbuster even if it is pretty laughably (but in a "so bad it´s good way").

Btw its still up to the script writers what will happen
You'd think so wouldn't you? But you'd be wrong.
It is the producers and director who decide what they want in a film - from tone to specific scenes - and who then tell the writers what to put into the script. On one hand this does stop writers from adding scenes that could never be filmed - I recall that the first draft of one film had an opening scene that would have cost more than the rest of the film. On the other producers and directors often end up forgetting about plot, or in the case of existing scripts what the story was meant to be about - The script for Buffy the Vampire Slayer was written by Joss Wheaton, the film version was 'camp' and rather crap because the producers decided to ignore the entire tone of the original script. The TV series was based on the exact same script (hardly a surprise as Joss was making it) and turned out very differently (it was a hit for one thing)....
If a Mass Effect film is made its quality will depend on how well the producers and director know the games. Rather than who gets to write the story.

I do not expect to much. (game movies you know...)
I hope it will be good.
I hope they make a trilogy.
I hope the third part will have an ending. (same as preset ending for future ME games)

Doom isn't that bad and RE is one of the huge successes just like Tomb Raider before it. The irony here is that RE isn't a B movie especially when its no low budget movies and Uwe Boll movies are like D movies based on very low budgets.Lili_oups wrote...
