[Spoilers] So i've owned my copy of mass effect since march nad its been great. I beat the game 3 times for the hell of it and was trying to make an ultimate save for the extended cut haha. but just about a week ago, 20 hours into my 4th playthrough, right after the genophage is cured, i spoke to that one crime investigator in the presidium commons after the citedal attack and after visiting huerta, i was trying to take the elevator down to the normandy. Everytime i went down, the game would either freeze at the citedal loading picture or have a never ending loading screen. I tryed from every floor and it didnt work. I tried about 15 times and i was about ready to launch my controller through my ps3. So i thought the only solution was to restart, so i deleted my save and restarted the game. I did this to only find out that it freezes again at the scanner in the war room after speaking to hackett. (this is after you have ur first dream sequence and the first time ur allowed to roam the normandy.) I have started 6 new games and none have gotten past the freezing. Only 1 did but it had the same problem, except worse, on the palaven mission. I have wasted 2 days of my life and i have no clue whats going on. I have called sony 3 times and went through all their steps. Ive deleted game data, and have have deleted corrupt data in the hard drive (restoring file system) about 5 or 6 times. Im at a point where i think the only problem could be the disc but it's in pristine condition with absolutly no scratches. the sony representatives tell me its the disc but the guys from gamestop tell me that the game is messed up in general. I just need YOUR OPINIONS because im stuck. I really dont want to spend another $60 for another game but i really want to experiance the extended cut first hand. (Dont spoil the EC please) Please tell me your suggestion and ill try it. Tell me what you would do or what you think could be the possible problem. Please, im at the point of throwing my playstation away! Ahh!!

I've had very similar problems. I've played the games for months without any notable problems but now, freezing in SP and now MP. I wanted to finish the EC myself but had freezing before each mission. I can usually get past the loading freeze if I delete and redownload the EC DLC, but the game will freeze on the very next mission. Like you, my disc is in perfect condition.. no scratches to be seen. I removed 20 GBs of space on my HD, tried playthroughs without DLC or patches installed.. nothing seems to work for very long.

My recommendation, if possible, rent another copy of the game to see if it improves these problems because I don't think it will. A new disc SHOULD not fix this problem if your existing disc is fine.. but who knows.

i have glitchy issues from day one. i had 160g model (not slim) and i babied it. no dust. never had a problem with it. since playing this game, my PS3 would freeze at least once a day and i would have to go through the whole process of restoring the system. after about two months of this happening, the freezing started occurring out-of-game. i would be watching netfilx or going through one of the menus and the system would freeze. Finally, during a system update (last week), the system froze. that PS3 will no longer load past the PS3 intro screen. it freezes at that spot every time. luckily i have a slim that i rarely use, also in perfect condition. plays all my games perfectly fine. I pop in ME3 get all the DLC and proceed to play......instantly...freeze! i guarantee that its not the disc. its in PERFECT condition. not even a spec of dust has touched it. if this game wasn't so much fun, i would have trashed it already. Seems like i won't be playing it much now though

My game seems to freeze each time i start a new game and KO Eva, the freeze always occurs when shepard picks up ash. Rebooting the ps3 and redoing the scene solves this. Still a bummer tho.

Well, my ps3 was 1st gen. and just recently got the ylod.. Mine could have just been reaching the end of its life causing frequent freezes. So, I'll retract my complaints about the game unless I have similar problems when I buy a new ps3. However, ps3 age doesn't always seem to be a factor in these situations from what I've read on the forum and elsewhere online.

Same thing happened to me, i have replaced it with a slim, but i do not play the singleplayer anymore to make sure it does not happen again. The Freeze on mars when shooting dr. Eve seems to happen when the ps3 tries to make a autosave or something. As there still is'nt a patch after so many months my best guess is there won't be any at all.

I have had freezing issuses since day one and they have done nothing to fix or even address the problem. Get used to it. On a bad day I get more than 5 freezes.

I have finally fixed the freezing problem! It appears that the problem was related to the disc and that there were extremely small scratches that caused it. Ended up sending the disc to EA along with $20 and they sent a brand new copy. Now it doesn't freeze anymore (single player, multiplayer I'm not sure about and can almost guarantee it has nothing to do with the disc considering multiplayer is online...) and plays almost smoother. There u go! :)

 @
Balckjack126 - I too have played the game through 3 times.  Then, having missed ME2, went back and played that and couldn't BELIEVE how different the story in ME3 was with the characters (and knowledge) brought in from ME2.   Until the nightmare called "the extended cut" came along.

Just like you, I had just finished curing the Genophage (Mortin ... : ( ).    Went back to the Citadel, talked to somebody about something (didn't seem that important) and got on the elevator to head back to the Normandy.    Frozen screen.   FOR THREE DAYS I tried to get back into the game (dying to see what had changed with the new DLC) with no success.   Finally I tried to backtrack (not easy since I was concerned with data corruption and had deleted most of the previous saves).   But that just took me too far back ... like to have just finished Mars ... and if I never have to see Rannoch again it will be too soon!   So I went back into the three other previous careers I had finished.  They all froze on the first attempt to leave Normandy.

Then I got out my old Technical Support cap and started troubleshooting.    I reorged the PS3s database.   Froze again.   I deleted all the game data and reinstalled the game and then reinstalled all the DLC.   Still froze.  My single player campaign is now completely unplayable.   In all honesty, I don't have the heart to start another new game.   I can't take the heart break of it dying on me again mid-mission so I don't know if it would play thru in a new game.

MP ("knock wood" ... he says knocking on his head ) is still working.   And I can sort of get my ME fix that way, but it's not the same.

I got so into this series that I had to go out and find ME1.   How the heck people stayed with this story long enough to get through that BUGGY, hard-as-heck-to-operate game is beyond me.   I just don't have the patience to get thru the first part of it where I'm supposed to get into a club and kill a bunch of people/aliens just to get to the owner.    REALLY wanna see the whole Soren thing play out tho.   But I digress.

I can only assume that not only are the guys and girls at BioWare aware of this PS3 issue, it's got to be killing them.   I mean they have gone out of their way to please the community ... be it re-writes, free DLC, etc.   They really are amazing people individually and as a company to be this dedicated to see something that was supposed to have been a closed chapter in their lives through like this, with no further income to be seen.   Unbelievable, actually.   I just hope they come to some kind of resolve as to what's causing this PS3 issue (and not get so sick of it that they scrap plans for ME4 ... ).   BUT AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM  WOULD GO A LONG LONG WAY RIGHT NOW!!!!!

*ahem*   thanks for listening.

REALLY?    That sounds suspiciously like bad code that has been corrected and re-released so that future sales of the game won't have the problem.   It also would make sense as to why nobody has publicly acknowledged the problem.   But I'm a cynic and very jaded, so maybe that's just me.

To charge you ANOTHER $20 is reprehensible and makes the whole thing seem tawdry.   Its not the $20 that's the problem but the principal.

I'm happy to hear that you are cool now tho and can play thru.   Did your old data remain or did you have to replace it and start everything over again?

This.
It seems to happen to me virtually every time I do that mission.

Thanks for the replies! U proved some very compelling points and I didn't enjoy reading it haha. But yes. I personally think they might've fixed
The code or it's just from small scratches that take a big effect on the disc. Either way, it's over now...WHEW! And when I got the game, I didn't want to take a chance with data becoming corrupted or any of that garbage so I started a new game right off the bat. Btw, the replacement is free if u bought it recently ;)

Wait....you paid 20 bucks more to  just to get a new ME 3 disc!!! what a rip off...if the disc is defective how about a free new copy instead,Because you just spent a total of 80 bucks for the game and it's not even the collectors edition*sigh*.anyway's the problem was probably not the disc since I've gotten to try other ME 3 discs on my ps3 and they all freeze up at the end of mars mission right as shepard is picking up Ash in the cutscene.either way I see Skyrim all over again here.

All you have to do is restart the game before you fight Eva and then it shouldn't freeze at least that fixes it for me.

I KNOW this is a PS3 post but I'm on PC and had very similar problems with ME2. This is more likely a corrupt save and it is doubtful whether a new disc would help. It certainly didn't for me.

I was able to borrow a friend's copy but not before I'd replayed the 4 hours from my previous save. I retried the save that I suspected was causing problems and it was exactly the same using his DVD.
