What would you guys suggest as a bonus power? I'm not talking about one specific class, as I would like to do a playthrough with all of them, and I would like to have an idea of what to take for each one. Also, bonus powers included, which powers should I map to LB and RB? I play on Xbox 360, so I sadly don't have the ability to use any power I have, at will, without pausing the action (it makes me think more tactically, sure, but I like to keep the combat lightning fast).

Possibly the vaguest question I've ever seen.

Adept: Energy Drain/Warp Ammo

L2: Warp, Triangle: Singularity, R2: Energy Drain

Engineer: Stasis/Slam

L2: Incinerate, Triangle Combat Drone, R2 Overload (I sometimes have stasis used when I encounter those pesky phantoms)

Vanguard: Energy Drain/Carnage

L2: Pull, Triangle: Charge, R2: Energy Drain

Infiltrator: Energy Drain

L2: Incinerate, Triangle: Tactical Cloak, R2: Energy Drain.

At firegremlin, (I think but I'm not sure) this is what xBl4ck0p5x wants.

Please be more specific (how do you want to play, what squadmates do you plan on using... It will better determine your choice of bonus power and button mappings.

I have not played all the classes yet, so here is what I have used:

Vanguard:
- Bonus Power does not matter. Stasis is good for the occasional Phantom. I have seen others take Barrier. Carnage can be good paired with Incendiary Ammo for fire explosions.
- Y, LB, and RB (no bonus power, no Nova): Charge, Pull, Shockwave
- Y, LB, and RB (no bonus power, Nova): Charge, Nova, Medigel(?)
- Y, LB, and RB (with non-Ammo Power bonus power): Charge
- Take Liara everywhere. Kaidan (if alive) and Javik are also excellent.

Soldier:
- Bonus Power: Most bonus powers will work. Energy Drain and Defense Matrix are good choices. Reave and Slam are good when paired with Liara (and Javik) for combos. Reave will not combo with Reave, so Kaidan is less useful with this setup, but his Reave will detonate Slam. Energy Drain will combo with a lot tech abilities for combos. Carnage can be good for detonating fire explosions but I am not very good at that yet.

I have used Energy Drain and experimented with Defense Matrix and some Carnage.
- Y, LB, RB (no bonus power): Adrenaline Rush, Concussive Shot, Medigel
- Y, LB, RB (with non-Ammo Power bonus power): Adrenaline Rush, Concussive Shot, Bonus Power
I have never used grenades on a Soldier yet.

Infiltrator
- Decoy is apparently good (have not used it myself). Energy Drain is good (have not used any).
- Y, LB, RB (no bonus power): Cloak, Incinerate, Sabotage.
- Y, LB, RB (bonus power): Cloak, Sabotage, Bonus Power

Engineer (my current playthrough)
- Bonus power: Energy Drain is good until you recruit Tali as Garrus and EDI have Overload. Carnage could also work so you can set off fire your own fire explosions with Incinerate.
- Y, LB, RB (no bonus power, no Combat Drone): Sabotage, Cryo Blast, Incinerate -or- Overload, Sabotage, Incinerate -or- Overload, Sabotage, Cryo Blast
- Y, LB, RB (Energy Drain, no Combat Drone): Cryo Blast, Incinerate, Energy Drain

What I have seen others do:
Sentinel with Defense Matrix/Fortification/Barrier;
- Liara with Javik/Kaidan as squadmates
- Y, LB, RB: Throw (take reset cooldown evolution), Lift Grenades, Medigel; Your cooldowns will be too prohibitive to use any other powers. Bring up power wheel at mission start to active Tech Armor and then other defense power.

Adept
- Bonus power: Stasis. Barrier is also good, Dark Channel should be good as well. Reave can substitute for Warp
- Y, LB, RB: Pull/Singularity/Stasis, Throw, Warp

I personally just do the following

Adept, sentinel or vanguard - warp ammo or reave
engineer - defense matrix or energy drain
infiltrator - warp or armor pen ammo
soldier - defense matrix

Edit: to clarify a little more

adept, sentinel & vanguards all being biotics receive pretty good damage boosts from warp ammo which is argueably one of the best ammo types in game. Reave also benefits them quite well since you can get a lot of damage out of them, set up for biotic explosions and get a damage reduction. (reave + tech armor or reave + charge = quite durable)

Engineer benefits a lot from energy drain since it would allow them to get in extra tech damage and restore shields but you need to remember it only works against shielded targets or synthetics. Defense matrix is my generally prefered choice for the engineer since I can set it up to restore shields in any situation regardless of enemy type, get a damage reduction, 25% boost to all my tech attacks and generally I set it to not have a large CD penalty.

in short energy drain = only usable on synthetics & shielded targets but has no CD time penalty. defense matrix = small CD penalty but good boost to tech damage to slightly more then compensate and a little DR boost.

For the infiltrator I really didnt care for the ammo types it has, that being disruptor and cryo. Disruptors fine but generally w/ the sniper rifles I take, shields dont really matter. In effect this makes taking a bonus ammo power very convincing. Armor piercing ammo will add more cover pen but warp ammo is more preferred since it can get a decent amount of armor pen, armor damage, health damage and barrier damage boosts.

For the soldier I found that defense matrix worked really well for him. I simply wanted it for the defensive properties between damage reduction, reduced shield regen delay & the purge for 100% shield restore.

Thanks for the replies. Caesar, here are some clarifications. My only character so far is a Level 60 Soldier (First ME3 character, so I couldn't use a bonus power), more of a Commando than a Shock Trooper. Squadmates were usually ones with crowd control or immobilization (Singularity and Stasis for Liara, and Cryo Blast for Kaidan) for easy target elimination. I tend to be more up-in-your-grill with a shotgun, and use an assault rifle when I encounter larger targets or need to hold a defensive position. I might be more defensive depending on the class, but the aggressive thing is working out so far. Thanks again.

I've used energy drain agaisnt non protected targets both synthetic and organic.

If the target is just health, energy drain will do some minor damage and it will stun.
Shield/barrier, it will do a lot more damage and it will restore user's shield/barrier.
If the target is down to armour, it's very ineffective, unless you detonate it for a tech burst.

If you are playing aggressive, then crowd-control and shield-regeneration powers tend to work best, so the best bonus powers may be:
-Stasis
-Energy Drain
-Defense Matrix (for shield boost when purged)
-Slam

Of course, Mass Effect 3 really rewards biotic and tech combos, so killing a bunch of enemies quickly with a combo greatly helps with surviveability. So Reave, Slam, Energy Drain, Stasis are your best bonus powers for setting up and/or detonating combos.

I pretty much only play adept. I keep trying to do a new game as another class...but they're never as fun.

For the adept I just take reave (effing fantastic..reduces damage taken, stacks and does damage, sets up and detonates biotics). I don't know why people would take anything else since biotic explosions do almost as much damage as overload against shields.

left bumper: Reave
right bumper: aoe double pull
Y: shockwave. I just use lifting shockwave and it's great to detonate through walls. Coupling that w/ aoe reave and you're bound to hit someone. Anyone who is unshielded then lifted is also capable of detonation.

If you play adept get reave. I cannot stress it enough.

Wow,

I completly forgot this thread existed.
